Alternatives to Micro Scooters?

Hey there,

My 7 year old ds has mentioned he would like a 2 wheeled scooter for Christmas to replace his 3 wheeled one. I like the look of the Micro Scooter range called the cruiser range. www.micro-scooters.co.uk/browse-cruiser-scooters because the look pretty stable still and are foldable - which is an essential feature as we live abroad but will be home for Christmas.

I didn't really want to spend £135 on it though. I was hoping to spend closer to £70.

Can anyone with experience buying a scooter like this suggest a good alternative to Micro scooters that are good quality?

Cheers!

Ds has the micro scooter sprite and it has been brilliant

Expensive but I think it's worth the money

Have a look at other websites as if you ring micro scooter they will price match if they can see if online cheaper, we saved £30 on dd's from an Amazon price match

My DS has a micro scooter and at his grand has a cheapo one. I really wouldn't splash out on a micro scooter, I don't think they're all that special.

Both of my DC's have Micro Mini scooters at the moment... although 1 is faulty and 1 is broken.

I've bought the cheapies in the Tesco sale to replace them. The 2-wheel was £80, reduced to £40. It looks good quality and significantly cheaper than the branded Micro Sprite.

We have a Micro Cruiser, it is indeed more stable than the other two wheelers.

Would you consider second hand? The metal micros last very well compared with the plastic ones (kids are older by then which helps) and you may be able to find a second hand one that looks pretty much new.

I don't know anyone that has bought a micro scooter new. There is a huge second hand market for them and all 3 of my kids have had ones that look almost new for a fraction of the price. Try FB marketplace.

My eldest has a JD Bug scooter. We've been very impressed with it.

Does he particularly want a folding one? I only ask, as the seven year old I know has one of the micro scooters that folds and he desperately wants one of the stunt type scooters that most of his friends seem to have so he can learn to do tricks on the ramps.

Thanks everyone for the responses.

I will check out the alternatives suggested.

I would love to buy second hand but as I'm overseas until Christmas I wouldn't be able to organise a second hand one in time.

I needs to be foldable so we can take it home with us on the flight.

Also recommend the classic JD bug - ours have been going for years and put up with all kinds of violent abuse and the carry strap is great for public transport. Also not seen as being as babyish as micro scooters by my older DS12 (but you've got a long way before you need to worry about that!)

John Lewis ones are great
