Christmas pudding G F and nut free

Longbarn5 · 04/10/2021 15:07

Sorry to start another GF thread. Cant seem to find the other one. I have been looking for the above but all the GF puds this year say that they are not suitable for people with nut allergies, even if no nuts in. I realise that this is all to do with manufacture, etc but it is of course to cover backs.

If you see any suitable puds that dont carry this warning please post. Tku

Cole's do a Gluten Free Christmas pudding that is also nut and alcohol free. I don't think anywhere has it in stock quite yet but worth looking online for it nearer the time

Is making your own an option? Admittedly I've never done it, but I don't think it's too difficult.

WildWomenDo · 04/10/2021 18:26

Do you mean traditional Christmas pudding or just desserts in general?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/10/2021 18:49

Dead easy to make your own. Easier than Christmas cake! No creaming, just mix it all up.
My old GH recipe has only a small percentage of flour anyway, compared to other ingredients, and no nuts, so I’m sure a recipe like that would work fine with GF flour.

Thanks everyone. I will look at the Coles one when it comes into stock. I do have a recipe but not too Keen on the steaming for 7 hours business 😁. I have lots of great GF recipes but dd is particularly keen on traditional Christmas pud. I will also check the F @ M one, thank you

Pressure cookers are the answer to cooking Christmas puddings They take just over an hour for a large one Wink

Longbarn5 · 04/10/2021 22:36

Goodness, there's a thought 😃

MIL makes ours in the microwave. Takes about 15-20 mins? It's has a fairly light flavour but would probably be richer if it wasn't mixed on Christmas Day 😂

Hi, would be interested in that recipe if you could get hold of it 😁

I make mine in the slow cooker. I used to use the pressure cooker, but switched to the slow cooker as it takes even less effort than the pressure cooker. As PPs have said, they are very easy to make. You can just sub regular flour with Dove's Farm GF flour, and add a little more liquid (or precook the fruit by simmering in black tea or stout).

Morrisons definitely do a nut and alcohol free one, they seem to be really good at allergy stuff so might be worth a look to see if they have a GF one too.

Holland and Barrett are my go-to for variations of “free from” Christmas puddings.

Longbarn5 · 06/10/2021 22:04

Thank you all for your different ideas and options. All really helpful

For nut free options you should check out nutfreeliving on fb. It's a page that lists nut free food, at Christmas they break it down by food types so they have a whole section on Christmas desserts they also have a whole section for nut free and other allergen free food so I'm sure they will list gf options. It's really great as they check with manufacturers etc so you are extra sure it is safe. They also have am Instagram page.
