Dm's interest in gardening has really taken off over the various lockdowns, and I'm wondering if there's anything I could get her for christmas? Not secateurs as I got her some good ones for her last birthday.

I have just recently got into growing my own veg. This is what I would like.

Etsy & Not on the high street have personalised dribblers. A wooden tool for making a hole in the soil to plant seeds. They put your name on it.

Maybe a voucher for online seed shop, so I can pick some nice ones during spring.

Ricekrispie22 · 04/10/2021 05:12

Trug - I have a large classic wooden one and it gets a lot of use.
Planner/journal
Hand cream - Crabtree and Evelyn has a special Gardener’s handcream which is amazing but it’s £20. This gift set is a bit cheaper.
String in a tin

(I think they might be dibbers @Catflapkitkat )

A bundle of seeds is always a great idea.
An attractive mister for the greenhouse.
A seed storage box/tin
You can never have enough gardening gloves, especially those that offer thorn protection.

Gardeners World do a gardening almanack which tells you, among other things, what to do each month ( hoping for this myself as I'm forever forgetting when to prune or cut back.)

A nice box or tin containing @Catflapkitkat 's dribblers ( sorry , couldn't help it😉) twine, string, snippers, a seed tamper, ties, plant labels etc...

Thanks everyone, some good ideas!

I will definitely get handcream, that's a great idea, and will look at some of the other things too.

droppyclematis. Haha. I hope the OP doesn't Google personalised dribblers - she may need therapy. Dibber or dibbler

There are some lovely things on the Sarah Raven site, although order early as they always take ages to send things.

RIPWalter · 04/10/2021 11:24

Dungarees or trousers with integrated knee pads. Work wear companies sell them.

My BIL had an automatic opening thing for his greenhouse last year , so if she has a greenhouse that may be a bit different .

Lovemusic33 · 04/10/2021 14:37

I got some spring bulbs for Christmas last year from my nan, it was probably my best gift. I also got a load of seed for my birthday. Gardening gloves are handy as I always lose mine, maybe a garden ornament (I collect fairy houses) or bird feeders.

Or a magazine subscription to gardeners world?

A garden kneeler? my Mum couldn’t be without hers.

Stompythedinosaur · 04/10/2021 21:18

I am in love with the hoe! I think I need one too.

Kneeler is a good idea too.

Thanks!

I'd suggest a Japanese weeding root cutter They're incredibly useful for weeding, harvesting, trimming veg, all sorts of jobs.

Sadik · 04/10/2021 21:54

I'd also suggest the Burgon and Ball equivalent to the hoe linked above. It's just a wee bit lighter weight and sharper, so less hard work to use.

QuimReaper · 04/10/2021 21:55

Placematking!

Showa grip gloves are always a good shout too - Showa 310 for general wear, 451 thermo for winter, and the 370 Assemblygrip for fiddly light work where you need to be able to feel what you're doing properly.
