She is 17 and very glamerous. She has more disposable income than me (access to daddy's wallet). She tends only to have designer stuff, which my budget doesn't run to. I've never seen her in the same outfit twice. She is also quite young - still loves teddy bears and things with cats on them. She's more sloany / preppy than trendy.

I could (and probably should) spend up to £30, but a present that costs less and looks more would be fab.

I did make-up last year. She loved it but I need something different this time.

She is SO difficult to shop for. Typical example: she thinks Jo Malone candles are just something you buy more of when your last ones have burned out.

She is close family so I need to make an effort.

Help!

could you find some costume jewellery and get it gift wrapped with lots of tissue paper, ribbons etc etc? you could make a relatively modest item look very special

Got my best friend a couple of things from Origins...

I went into Boots, described friend and the sort of things she likes, got some suggestions for products she might like... (pampering type stuff)

I spent about £20 on 2 products, then the (lovely) lady giftwrapped it for me in a gorgeous box and added quite a few free samples of other producs. Looked like it cost a lot more than it did and was a very personal present.

Most beauty counters will do something similar.

(Just beware because I went to a different counter before that and every product was about £20!)

How about some of those super-splendid tweezers (tweezerman?) - about £18 but apparently they are the bee's knees?

soapbox · 07/12/2007 14:27

A voucher for a pedicure?

Or manicure?

idlingabout · 07/12/2007 14:36

She might not be as difficult to shop for as you think. As she clearly likes brands you could get 'posh' skin care and she would know it was a good brand and would probably appreciate it. Alternatively, lots of 'designers' do things like key rings at this time of year so that you can 'get a label' without the huge price tag. If she likes 'cutsie' , I'm sure I saw 'Radley' (the scottie dog)key rings at about £20 in House of Fraser. Any good ?

Debenhams have very lovely l'occitane soaps - big 250g ones - reduced at the mo to @£3.37- half price effectively - can do link if you are interested.

Also Boots have a Ruby & Millie make up bag with make up reduced from £50 to £25 if you are interested - know you said no make up but its a good brand and good value - can do link if you are interested too.

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 07/12/2007 14:39

Have you seen those heavy sparkly keyrings - sure they do a cat's face and maybe a teddy....will try to find a link....

tullytwo · 07/12/2007 14:43

the l'occitane soaps

Ruby & Millie one

(By the way the ruby and millie one is buy 3 for 2 and there is a £10 off £50 on hot deals voucher forum - so you get 3 for £40!)

BroccoliSpears · 07/12/2007 14:43

Thank you all for your ideas

Pedecures and manicures she just has as a matter of course. Her beauty therapist visits her at home.

I quite fancy some of those tweezers if Father Christmas is reading this thread . Not 'presenty' enough for her though.

I was looking at Radley stuff, and similar in Debenhams. If I could find the right sort of thing that would be good.

I think smellies / skincare might work. Will persue that. Will try Boots (groan at having to go BACK into town!)

Have also been looking at costume jewellery. Any good online sites anyone can recommend?

phone charms here

this might be a bit dear

littleboo · 07/12/2007 14:48

theres a fab site called getting personal. co .uk
They personalise things like calenders etc
You can thier name put on each page of the calender, music ones, hollywood......, x factor, kids, all sorts can't really describe it well. For example football one has say picture of stadium for march with eg littleboo stadium. And newspaper cutting with " little boo scores cup final goal!!! have a look.

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 07/12/2007 14:50

can't find blithering keyrings i'm thinking of - will look again later

BroccoliSpears · 07/12/2007 19:52

Thanks for the links. Am scouring the net tonight. If I don't find anything, will resort to Amazon and get her books / DVDs.

Ooh I know this may not help but I am so tempted to say you should get her an Oxfam Unwrapped present (a goat for a village etc) to make her realise how lucky she is!!!

SpeccieSeccie · 07/12/2007 20:30

What about a subscription to Vogue? Or Elle? I think they're about £30

iheartdusty · 07/12/2007 21:23
