Electric car ride on to drive for older child

My 5 year old is desperate for a charge up drive yourself electric car, has been since age 2 1/2 and hasn't got over not getting one. So I think we have to as he's asking Santa this time 😬 but he's tall and they are mainly for 3 year olds. Any suggestions for ones for a taller child to drive?

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for ride-on recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best ride-on toys page with lots of great options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and their kids. We hope you find it useful.

Have a look at Riiroo , they have loads of different types .

Would a hoverkart be a possibility?

Though in fairness my dc recieved one of those battery cars (second hand from a relative) at 7 and 5 and both squeezed themselves into it for a good couple of years.

Don't do it unless you have a huge house with room to drive around or you get one that can go on pavements and grass and the battery lasts long enough not to haul it back home for miles. They're very very slow and dull once you've had one for 30 mins the desire wares off. DD was bought one a few years ago by inlaws and within a week she'd ditched it in favour of her scooter.

Mine had much more use out of a mini quad bike than the Jeep they had .

I know I've resisted for years, and left it too late really as DH is so miserable about any kids toys especially big expensive ones. We have an adult lounge and he won't go in the kids playroom.
This car is all DS goes on about and he's been in the neighbours one, but it's tiny. He's noticed that Santa doesn't bring the thing he asks for.

DS has a pedal go kart that gets very little use because he loves his bike. I would prefer he had the exercise of bike/ scooter/ pedal go kart, but I don't want him to have "mr frosty issues."

In that case I’d go for an age appropriate quad , they are much more user friendly in smaller spaces and have a good resale value IME , which may be a way of selling it to your husband if he’s being a misery .
