Does anyone else do a stocking for their DH?

If so, what are you putting in it this year? I've asked him for suggestions and he just shrugged and has offered none as usual...got zero ideas atm. I give him lots of ideas for mine haha.

Something to ...
...Read
...drink

...wear
...do

It's great!

@lorisparkle

I love doing stockings - my favourite part of Christmas. I buy random bits through the year when I see them for DH and DS. My mum does mine and I am nearly 50!!
Me too (well, in my 40s but DM clearly is never going to stop…I get one on the day from DH then DM gets all four of us one that we open onBoxing Day…that way DC can say thank you and are not completely overwhelmed by stocking stuff)

Choc orange and coins are a given here. Usually an interesting bottle of beer. Something snacky, a book (second hand) then useful bits (eg a spare charger cable, nice toiletries etc).

@TwinsandTrifle

One year I did something fantastic (which sadly set the bar and has never been matched...all courtesy to Mumsnet.

The whole stocking was themed for DIY and car tinkering. A magnetic underbonnet light. Extendable bendable torch thing. Magnetic wristband to hold screws. Some sort of laser measuring gadget. And then obligatory orange/sweets. Went down an absolute storm. If you look at DH stocking threads maybe 2-3 years ago, you'll see that one.

This year, I've gone with....

3m phone charging cable set because he's always on his phone and the little cables aren't long enough.

Silly socks that read on the sole "if you can read this, bring bacon"

A tape measure, that along with cm and inches, has various bizarre heights marked on it too. Eg "average height of pygmy goat"

A white chocolate orange and some festive chocolate Colon caterpillars.

Fortnum's and mason Lobster bottle opener.

None of which are particularly inspired, or go together, but I'm totally stuck this year, and DH never had a stocking before me, and has really taken to it, so I'm following with interest for some inspiration!

Lol at "colon caterpillars"

We don't do stockings but it's my OH's birthday in December so I am nicking some of these ideas.

I just put a bit of chocolate in everyone’s stocking and we eat it in our bed, with a Christmas film on as the children wake up one by one and joins us with theirs.

I’d like to get him a bag of “coal” this year. It’s cinder toffee covered in chocolate from Fortnum and Mason.

We then have main presents downstairs.

110APiccadilly · 03/10/2021 16:00

I've done it before though not every year. Mostly little things - sweets/chocolate, multitool, nice pen. He likes board games so I got him Monopoly Deal one year (which is actually better than Monopoly imo). A mug for the football team he supports went down well.

MrsLeclerc · 03/10/2021 16:08

Yes, DH likes ales so I normally put some unusual beer snacks in there. I’ve put wasabi peas, tex-mex style bags, fancy pork scratchings etc.
White chocolate tobelerone.
A car caddy organiser. It sits behind the gearstick and can hold a phone on charge, cash, keys etc.
Sticky bookmarks in the shapes of aliens and spaceships.
Jamaican Rum chocolate truffles.
Stick on light covers for his PS controllers.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 03/10/2021 16:11

Dp was quite poor growing up so never really had Christmas like I did as a kid. He was also on his own for 15 years before we got together so I try and make a big deal of Christmas for him.

I do things like...

Favourite cider
Posh shaving stuff, brush, creams etc
Smellies set
Chococolate
Puzzles

TwinsandTrifle · 03/10/2021 16:47

@StCharlotte can you elaborate on the fishing gadgets stocking please? This would be perfect for DH!

Re the tape measure, it looks like the one that's been tagged on wicked uncle, but I got it for about half that on Amazon.

Nanananani · 03/10/2021 16:51

Yep, always!

Choc coins
Tangerine
Chocolate orange
Mini whisky
Socks
Mini game like nano blocks thing
Card quiz game or similar

gogohm · 03/10/2021 17:11

I'm thinking of starting this year, first Christmas with all 4 kids (should have been last year but with covid we were in 4 places.)

psuedocream3 · 03/10/2021 17:13

I love stockings, the festive surprises and treats are the best part of Christmas.... But my husband isn't getting one as no one has ever made me a stocking and it's a bit weird Santa giving everyone else a stocking and forgetting one person. Santa only bring presents and stockings for children in our home.

Pseudo, make your own! At least, get some bits and pieces for yourself, plus the stocking, hand them over to your DH and say "Here you go, add to this!". If I didn't do that I wouldn't get one either, and by the time Christmas rolls around I've forgotten what's in there.
StevieNix · 03/10/2021 17:22

We also do a £10/£15 Poundland stocking for each other- we’ve done it for the last 4 years and it’s so much fun!

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 03/10/2021 17:23

DH Christmas stocking generally has:

small DIY tool/gadget
funny toilet humour book (cheap)
deodorant
shower gel
socks
chocolate bars
alcoholic miniature

Autumngoldleaf · 03/10/2021 17:34

No.

The absolute stress of wondering what to buy him any way!!
It woud sap up all my ideas!

TwinsandTrifle · 03/10/2021 17:39

@psuedocream3 hand DH your stocking some time in November, and say with a big smile "here you are, you're in charge of mine."

Literally what I had to do with DH who hadn't ever received or given a stocking before he met me. And the first time, I could see the panic in his face, at "wtf do I put in here?" So for his first effort, give him the rhyme of "something to wear, something to read, something I want, something I need" to help him along. Or tell him, the limit is £50 but he can choose whatever goes in it. Now DH is pretty good at mine, and gets quite excited about doing it.

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 03/10/2021 17:49

Yes, usually socks, fancy nuts or pork scratchings, bottle of craft beer, something like a wallet ninja or similar, lots of chocolate/sweets, a new tree decoration, a small gadget like a mag-light/book light/mini puzzle type thing, maybe a book...

I love doing stockings.

Some great ideas on here - I need to get on with stuff!

MeadowHay · 03/10/2021 18:03

Thanks, so glad I started this thread, great ideas! DH does lovely ones for me but I usually give him lots of ideas Grin. He does leave it all til the last min and then panics every year though. I want to get mine sorted nice and early especially as will have a newborn imminently so can't be rushing round at the last minute in December stressing myself out.

Love this thread! I struggle with this so may steal ideas!

Longbarn5 · 03/10/2021 20:44

I do one. Mini drinks like brandy, chocs, hankies, puzzle book

TwinsandTrifle · 03/10/2021 21:25

Anyone with an idea for fishing gadgets?

And apologies (again) for Colon Caterpillar. It did this on another thread. Why my phone thinks I'm more likely to be capitalising the word "colon" than the name "Colin" is beyond me.

41sunnydays · 03/10/2021 21:40

I make DH a stocking every year

He usually has some nice shower gel, deodorant, posh hair gel, socks, boxers, chocolate and foody treats e.g mini xmas pudding, nice chutney etc.

Then some little things that I think he may like. Past ideas have included a photo book, key ring. Wallet, gloves etc

goose1964 · 03/10/2021 22:40

So far it has 2 different coffees, and a cricket book

GoldStarAngel · 04/10/2021 20:27

So far:

Chocolate orange
Lottery tickets
A magazine
Socks

Sn0tnose · 05/10/2021 02:21

In theory he’s got a stocking. In reality it usually spills over into a sack with his actual presents under the tree. I’ve bought:

A wallet ninja
Pork scratchings in a glass jar
3 miniatures of Dead Mans Fingers in different flavours
Some fancy tea he wanted to try and one of those tea pots that sits on the cup (William Morris design)
Star Wars mug
A Welsh dragon pastry cutter
Beard oil & beard balm
Swedish fish sweets
A scratch card
A cooling towel
Face packs
Lip balm
Reece’s chocolate
Some Marvel golf balls that he will never use but likes them anyway
A golf ball stamp and some little metal thing that’s golf related but forgotten what it’s for, as well as a new towel to match his bag
A little set with nail clippers, scissors etc
A CD version of a mixtape of his favourite songs (only £6 on Etsy)
Socks & boxers
Lindt chocolates
Haribo
Notebooks and a box of biros
A water bottle
A photo of him and his best friends in a frame
A puzzle book
A set of various bbq sauces in unusual flavours
A bottle of butterbeer (he wanted to try it).
Insole things (he’s on his feet all days and is always trying new products)

He’ll also have a large bottle of my friend’s home made cider, which he likes very much.
