Anyone got photos of anything they do or give to their kids?

OP posts:
cha027 · 01/10/2021 10:51

I don't have any pics but xmas eve I usually give my kids a Xmas box filled with, Christmas choc santa, a Bedtime book, small Christmas game and christmas activity book. Sometimes I'll add pj's.

Also last year I got 7 new books and the week before Christmas I wrapped them up and the chose one a night to read at Bedtime

manhattenrain · 01/10/2021 10:59

I haven't got a photo but have some ideas for a Christmas Eve box!

Pyjamas, a special ornament, bed socks, Santa hat / reindeer headband, Christmas sweater, Christmas book, a blanket

I'd personally give the Christmas box on the 1st of December so that they can use it longer.Smile

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/10/2021 11:43

Jar of sweets for them to enjoy without sharing
Annual
Colout in activity book and gel pens

Now: (things they need anyway )

Day 1 of DD Beauty Advent
Showergel/ Face sruff for DS

Bellyfat · 01/10/2021 13:10

It's 1st Dec for us rather than 24th as it spreads Christmas out a bit.
Christmas Pyjamas, a selection box, a mug, hot chocolate, advent calendar, tin of sweets.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/10/2021 13:14

When ours were younger the Christmas eve box contained...
The special santa plate
Stockings
An activity to do that day like a ginger bread house
New PJs (if needed)
DVD of a Christmas film.

Mybalconyiscracking · 01/10/2021 13:18

We used to do two nativity plays and have a Chinese.

StevieNix · 01/10/2021 13:32

We give our Christmas Eve box at around lunch time when we come back from a big walk ready to relax and stay in for the rest of the day, so I like to put craft activities/things to do to keep DS (age 4) busy and entertained.

Things we have included in the past that he has loved:
The night before Christmas book,
Colouring/sticker book and crayons/felt-tips,
Some sort of craft activity,
Stamper markers,
Decorate your own ginger bread house/biscuits etc,
Mini painting kit (eg paint a tree decoration)
New pjs,
Things to make a fancy hot chocolate,
Popcorn,
The plate for Father Christmas (same one every year)
Christmas themed bath bomb

mamatoTails · 01/10/2021 14:08

I've done Xmas Eve boxes over the years, but now do things during the month instead.

New Xmas pyjamas to wear for the month will be left by the family elf on the 1st.

I add something new each year and this year it's Xmas bedding - that will be a surprise for sometime during the first week of December, ready for when they get in from school.

Xmas book - I get them all out when we put the tree up and they sit in a basket underneath, and at some point in the 2nd week of December the family elf will leave a new one at the front door to add to the collection.

Also this year I've got my 8 & 9 year old girls sequin Xmas beanie boos as a little extra - they'll be delivered at some point on December by the elf. Will get a little Xmas bear or something for the little two as well.

My son is 13 and I usually get him a pair of Xmas boxers and socks instead of a teddy.

May get the girls some Xmas earrings or Xmas bath bombs too.

On Christmas Eve I plan to just leave a box of Christmas chocolates or biscuits ready for when they've all bathed and cosy ready to watch Elf!

HeyFloof · 01/10/2021 20:05

YouTube "Christmas eve box" and be prepared to lose hours of your life Grin

Ours has new pj's and fluffy socks /slippers.
Twas the night before Christmas book and a nativity book.
The stocking
The santa plate
A nice certificate (I make/print this myself)
Reindeer food (bird seed in an old sprinkle container)
Bath bomb /bubbles and new flannel.

It's all years old and recycled, the stocking was mine. Except the pj's of course. And that's been tradition in my family since my DM was little.

HungryHippo11 · 02/10/2021 08:17

We will di Xmas eve box for the first time this year, but I'm going to put in things which can be reused each year rather than buying e.g. New Christmas pyjamas every year.

So I was thinking:
Couple of books
Christmas blanket to snuggle up in
Father Christmas' magic key
The plate to put the mince pie/carrot/baileys on
And maybe a couple of consumable things like a sticker book and some marshmallows for hot chocolate.

Incywinceyspider · 02/10/2021 09:28

This was ours from last year. We do a family box rather than a one just for children, hence the mulled wine!!!

It contained:

  • pyjamas
  • DS's stocking and sack
  • santa plate
  • DVD
  • book
  • tree decoration
  • bottle of mulled wine for mummy and daddy!

This year I'll use the same DVD but will get a new book and pyjamas. DS is 2 now so I'll also get some hot chocolate and some biscuits or something.

I'll get a christmas sticker book earlier in December so he can get full use out of it.

Whatafrickennightmare · 02/10/2021 09:34

We don't have a box but I always buy a new board game, new PJ's and have lots of snacks :)

Jumpingintosummer · 02/10/2021 11:43

We spread it over December.

Whatever day the tree goes up (Sunday closest to 1st) everyone gets festive pyjamas. We bring out the personalised Emma bridgewater mugs (used every year) and a hot chocolate hamper. Christmas bedding goes on too.

1st. Advent calendars

Christmas Eve hamper is always for the family (dc are aged 9-19) and includes new pyjamas (themed not Christmas), bath bombs, a white company winter candle, a box of chocolates, a bottle of port, reindeer dust, a tattered copy of stick man to read and a letter from Father Christmas.

Fallhappy1 · 04/10/2021 17:28

Pyjamas, slippers, lots of snacks and novelty items.

BiddyPop · 04/10/2021 18:00

No photos here either.
Lots of things that get re-used every year - DD's stocking, her plastic plate and mug with Santa on (for milk and cookies), family edition of "Twas the Night before Christmas", and DD's snowman covered HWB.
New things are PJs for all, bath bombs for DD and I, (sometimes a festive shower gel for DH), hot choc for us all and a Christmas craft beer for DH.

Ours comes out after dinner and the lighting of the Christmas candle, so it is part of a slow winding down for the whole family towards bedtime.

Christmas1988 · 04/10/2021 18:41

I usually do Pjs or new onesie for the children and a Christmas activity book to keep them entertained on Christmas even when I need to get my jobs done.

MintMe · 04/10/2021 18:47

New bedding, new ornament chosen by DS and his new (patterned but not full on festive) pyjamas on the day we put the tree up.

Old Christmas books (from previous years) also come out.

Christmas Eve is his new full on festive pyjamas, a new Christmas book (its Elf this year) a chocolate Santa, reindeer food, his Santa plate, snuggly socks and a bath bomb.

Nc123 · 05/10/2021 14:32

New PJs that can be worn all year round, special hot choc sachets, festive chocolate lollies, a bath bomb, popcorn and a Christmas DVD from a charity shop. This year we aren’t doing the DVD as we have Prime and Netflix so I’ll have to think of something else instead!

We give the box at 4pm after our Christmas lights safari (or walk round to see all the houses that are lit up).

RevolvingPivot · 10/10/2021 08:34

We do a special "breakfast" on 1st December (although sometimes it takes place after school). I provide them with a menu of choices (they always pick pancakes shaped like Christmas trees with Nutella or maple syrup, and if it's after school they choose "breakfast wrap" as well. Often I make cinnamon buns.

I dress the table with decorations, a poinsettia, red tablecloth/napkins, crackers and their Christmas mugs get their first outing.

They are given all the Christmas stuff at this time as I can't see the point of giving Christmas themed stuff on Xmas eve when it's nearly all over. Over the years i've included Christmas themed books (this year we have the Christmas Pig by JK Rowling coming), Christmas pjs, panto tickets, Christmas jumpers, chocolates, Christmas earrings, Christmas deeley boppers/ hair accessories, Christmas cuddly toys, anything Christmas related really. This year I have a game where they wear antlers and try to throw something over them; I have some Christmas duvet covers coming and I will buy Xmas pjs and jumpers. No child has asked for a fancy advent calendar yet, so it may be chocolate ones for them, but in the past they've had smiggle, Lego, Lol etc. I always have Liberty or Net a Porter Grin.

Our elf will see his 10th year with us this year. We had him before elf on the shelf was popular (I'd only heard of it on US websites when I decided to get one) so he is a soft toy who looks like an elf. He has a passport that I made for him all those years ago and he used to be Santa's eyes and ears watching for unruly (and good) behaviour, he's never done much mischief - I'm just not that creative!

I honestly think that doing this for my DC is more fun than actual Christmas Day and I know that they look forward to it every year. Even if I haven't got a tree at that point we dress the fireplace and put Christmas cushions out, it's a nice way to kick off the festive season.

shouldistop · 10/10/2021 17:47

We have a family box that we have Christmas dvds, books, pjs & mugs in. I'll add treats, hot chocolate, maybe baileys for dh & I nearer the time.

shouldistop · 10/10/2021 17:53

Forgot to say I take the box out earlier in December so we've got time to enjoy the family films etc in the run up.

22WR · 16/10/2021 23:48

We've done a Christmas Eve box for years, we usually fill it with:

Christmas PJs
Christmas bath bombs (Lush)
Christmas mugs, hot childcare and marshmallows
Christmas book
Santa teddy (we have the same one from DD15's first Xmas that we dig out every year)
Christmas chocolates
