Anyone else with a toddler christmas tree again? Totally nude for the first 4 feet above ground, then madly crammed with stuff? It drives me crazy.

Please, when will we be able to have a normal Christmas tree? dd2 is 18 months.

Also, how long until we can get through the christmas period without being permanently coated in glitter? Even the dog is covered in glitter ffs.

And breathe......

with ds he was 18mths @ christmas 2002 the bottom half of the tree was decorated with plastic balls from elc, and strapped to the windows.
this year dd 23mths has 2 trees 1 small kids tree they decorated themselves and one large dh decorated when the baubles come get taken off i kick them underneath.
also no glass or breakables here learnt my lesson with ds.

Well, anyone wanting to go into business selling Christmas tree picket fences - I'll be your first customer!

So, these people with angel children who never touch the tree: is is Nature or Nurture?

Are they born that way? Or is it down to amazing parenting skills? I guess I'm scuppered either way....

I can't remember it being a huge deal with my two (but they are now 7 and 8 and much of their early life is a big blur ). However in my family we don't put the tree up until Christmas Eve, and then ut it away again on Epiphany so perhaps the time period was just shorter for major accidents. To be honest we've had more problems with dogs and wagging tails!

Let me get me drill!

ChasingSquirrelsUpTheXmasTree · 06/12/2007 23:17

nature, although those with only perfect kids will say nurture

stealthsquiggle · 06/12/2007 23:27

I have one of each - so nature!

We did tree in playpen one year and then the next we turned playpen upside down and put tree on playpen...was much nicer (and we needed a much shorter tree so saved money).

Julezboo · 07/12/2007 11:21

we have ours boxed in with the sofa and chair babyds cant get to it...

Well unless mil lifts him to to reach it

cornetjo · 08/12/2007 22:26

Our tree is the other way around, bare near the top but loaded near the bottom. dd2 is 2.5 and wanted to have a go but could only reach the bottom couple of branches, so everything went there. I know she will be upset if I move them all, so I will have to get a few extra to balance it out a bit.

welliemum · 12/12/2007 20:21

Sad update:

We put the tree up and I said to the dd's, "now listen, that tree is HOT".

2 little faces looked at me like this:

I think it's not working very well because we don't have tree lights....

On the bright side, the tree's in the playpen and hasn't been pulled down. Yet!

We have always had a tree from the 1st of December this year I have had mindees, aged 12,13 and 21 months, none have touched it.

In fact cant remember any of mindees pulling it down, maybe I have just had angelic mindees

DH on the other hand has come in from Christmas drinks a bit wobbily and fallen over and knocked the whole damm thing over !

welliemum · 13/12/2007 21:41

shosha, whatever you're doing works for the mindees but DH is clearly a hard case! (And so are my dd's!)

...its not the tree we have to worry about its the presents underneath - walked into the sitting room yesterday and my 2 dc (3&1) were happily unwrapping presents!!!! It was comical though because as i walked in they both stopped and ds thrust the prsent he had into dd's hands!!!!
