So.... If you are having a starter, what is it? Don't want anything to fussy but something that is a bit more original than a prawn cocktail!

Won't be having one - start the day with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon, then a light lunch - no idea what this year - so by the time it's dinner time, we've no need for a starter.

Sorry. Absolutely no help whatsoever.

NineWurlysDancing · 06/12/2007 21:18

i'm having........... nothing cos I enjoy everything with my christmas dinner and if I have a starter then I wont eat it all.[greedy]

If I did then I would go for maybe pate and melba toast

ComeOVeneer · 06/12/2007 21:19

I am making potted crab with rocket and balsamic dressing and homemade melba toast.

Christmaspartypooka · 06/12/2007 21:19

We never have starter, but then at about 11am we have bucks fizz and smoked salmon/brown bread.
Eat "lunhc" at about 3pm. Wouldn't have room.

SlightlyMadScreachingSirens · 06/12/2007 21:20

We have bacon butties...well kind of...we have 1 meal and spread it thru the day

Bacon butties about 10am
Roast turkey about 2pm
Christmas pud about 5pm

Selection boxes, Christmas biicies peanuts etc. fuel the rest of hte day

CarmenerryChristmas · 06/12/2007 21:21

We are having smoked salmon on home-made wheaten bread with lemon and horseradish sauce. But there are 18 of us so we couldn't do anything more complicated.

TheMincePiedMadHouse · 06/12/2007 21:21

we usually have home made crab cakes when I am cooking. Off to the outlaws this year - no starter, lunch at 12 noon and soggy veg (usually pink cauli)

ComeOVeneer · 06/12/2007 21:22

We have breakfast early after stockings, before presents, then christmas dinner at 2ish so a full on starter, main, palate cleanser, cheese, dessert, coffee and truffles.

paulaplumpbottom · 06/12/2007 21:23

We are Starting with honeydew melon slices with cantaloup balls drizzled with mint syrup followed by White onion soup with goats cheese crostini

ComeOVeneer · 06/12/2007 21:24

Am doing baked eggs with smoked salmon and cream with dill and bucks fizz for breakfast, tastes great and takes 2 minutes to mske.

SantaBeClausImWorthIt · 06/12/2007 21:24

I shall be at COV's house this Christmas then.

3missyshohoho · 06/12/2007 21:25

Thanks for the suggestions... We don't normally have a starter as agree that lunch is normally filling enough but family are over this year and wanted to do something different/special..... Any more for anymore?

SantaBeClaus want the full menu? So that is breakfast and starter, main is roast goose with roast potatoes, braised red cabbage, brussels with pancetta, lemon zest and pinenuts, nigella's coca-cola ham, madiera gravy and cranberry sauce. Palate cleanser of champagne, vodka and grapefruit granita, selection of cheeses with crackers, then homemade christmas pudding with cream, brandy cream or brandy butter, coffee with homemade truffles and homemade florentines. Evening is make your own plate of cold meats with the chutneys etc I have made, salad, pickles etc.

Think I enjoy this a bit too much?

mazzystar · 06/12/2007 21:47

fig, walnut and goat's cheese salad , takes no effort just toast cheese and bung on a plate with some rocket

cov tell us how you make your granita, it sounds divine

SantaBeClausImWorthIt · 06/12/2007 22:24

No, CoV, that's just enough detail to confirm that I'm coming over to you. Bugger my family, they can fend for themselves.

Shall I bring my sleeping bag?

I can help in the kitchen - I can peel, chop, wash up etc, and I will only drink my own weight in Champagne.

3missyshohoho · 07/12/2007 20:32

Yes sounds great COV - I would also like to come over. I cook nigellas ham in coke - makes the ham lovely and sweey and tender doesn't it! Thanks for inspiration - though still not sure! lol!
