Yoto or Tonie?

I’ve thread searched and cannot see anything too recent. Which would be better for 6 year old? I know nothing about them from first hand experiences!

I recently read a post in an FB group that I'm in that was heavily weighted to Yoto. So much so that I'm now going to get my DD4 one for Christmas. Cheaper for cards, easier for storage and the radio/podcast function had good reviews too. Hopefully someone with personal recommendation will be along soon.

Ah that sounds positive as I am leaning towards that one. Wondering if there are any discounts coming up or to just go for it now...

Have to say weve got a Tonie box and DD loves it, but Ive heard that the Yoto has better longevity as kids get older.

GCNC · 27/09/2021 22:37

We have a Yoto, little niece has a Tonie. I definitely think the tonie box is the more babyish of the two though still a great idea and gift. Yoto is a big hit here (5yo) and I can’t see it getting cast aside for years.

Florencenotflo · 27/09/2021 22:44

I've been wondering the same! Still unsure if Dd (6 in January) would use a Tonie as much, definitely leaning towards a yoto after reading this thread.

Mrsfussypants1 · 27/09/2021 23:50

Big thumbs up for the Yoto from our 5yr old granddaughter, it's been used much more than we thought it would be. She uses the crackling fire card as a fire for pretend camping, loves the pod casts and at the weekend she brought it with her and we listened to the Bfg together, probably the longest she's sat still, I enjoyed it too. The night light and clock with day and night symbols has been like a bigger kids gro clock which has been handy.

ShinyGreenElephant · 27/09/2021 23:53

My Dd2 absolutely loves her Toniebox and I wouldnt swap it but I think the Yoto for a 6 year old

Mrsfussypants1 · 27/09/2021 23:54

Oh and for a discount make sure you get a referral code, anyone who's bought one from Yoto can share it with you, and its worth signing up to their website to earn points for things like following them on social media, adding birthdays etc. You can use your points for money off, ours points bought a few cards for free.

HoHoJ0 · 28/09/2021 00:10

We have a yoto and a friend of ours has the tonie and I have to agree - the yoto seems like it will last much longer. In fact, the other mums from my antenatal class all just had the debate over this and the yoto won hands down - all of the eight children either have a yoto or are getting one for their fourth birthday!

We love the daily podcast and the radio, especially as we can also put Spanish radio on. The cards are much better value too.

For 10% off your first order, here’s my referral link (which also earns me points towards a future purchase).

Thank you all - so helpful! We have found it hard to think of what to get our 6 year old for Christmas this year but the Yoto sounds perfect!

Yoto definitely! It has more functions (night light, sleep sounds etc) my 8 year old loves it still. Has better content for older kids. The cards are cheaper than Tonies and easier to store, they take up less space when travelling. Feel free to use my referral code for 10% off

I've taken the plunge and bought a yoto for DD Christmas. I used the code above so here's mine:

Yoto for sure - the podcasts are brilliant, and you can turn the yoto on from your phone whilst you are still in bed (and your DC are wanting to listen to something) Smile

Bighousebustup · 02/10/2021 22:55

I’m getting my dd a yoto for her 6th birthday

Brody77 · 03/10/2021 21:06

We just got my dd a Yoto for her 8th birthday last week and it has been such a hit, the podcasts the radio, the stories, the educational content- I never thought she would get excited over the idea of maths! She has dyslexia so the idea of getting her to enjoy the stories herself without the pain of reading has been amazing. She even decided on an early night when she discovered the bedtime meditation card- all round winner and cannot praise enough Smile

MumTashajade · 07/10/2021 15:21

We have a yoto for my 5 year old and 2 year old and they both love it. A fantastic range of cards and the new yoto club let's you have monthly cards sent out specific to the age range of your child. We've just joined so will update after the first delivery :)
We haven't tried any of the other players but would definitely recommend this one. I also have a 10% off referral code 9f that helps anyone

I'm torn between the two for my nearly 4 year old. As well as stories, I really think she'd enjoy listening to her favourite disney songs too.

Am I right in thinking that the Yoto cards, e.g. Frozen, are just the story? As the Tonie has 4 songs from the film and also a story.

Penguin1508 · 02/11/2021 20:08

Completely in love with the Yoto not had the Tonie so can’t offer a review but we have 1 year old and also a nearly 5 year old they love being read too which we still do but this player has changed bedtime for us. Also the night light along with the radio station our DS loves!!

If anyone wants a referral code feel free to use this:

We've opted for the Yoto for Christmas - I'm hoping I won't be more excited than the kids with the choice Grin.

Here's another referral code for 10% off should anyone else fancy making a purchase:

Marjoriesdoor · 03/11/2021 10:21

We love our Yoto! We are building up quite a good selection of cards now and my son likes the radio station/podcast on it.

LittleLadysMama · 06/11/2021 21:33

I'm torn between them both, my little girl is only 2 so I'm worried maybe too young for a yoto? But similarly I feel like the novelty of the tonie might wear off quickly and I'd then move onto a yoto anyway 🤷‍♀️
Does anyone here with a toddler have experience of either / or both? Thanks

mobear · 06/11/2021 21:40

DS1 will be getting a Yoto for Christmas. I researched both and the Yoto seemed like the one he’d get the most use out of as he grows.

mobear · 06/11/2021 21:41

Also from a space/ storage perspective it appealed to me that the cards will be a lot neater to store!

AndICanYouKnow · 17/11/2021 23:30

I’ve had both and the yoto is by far the best for longevity thanks to the radio/ podcast/ clock and greater variety of audio. I think you get more for your money too. The only bug bear I have with it is that the cards are easily lost but thankfully they are all stored on the app so you can just transfer them onto a new card if need be. My kids love it and it’s used every day.

If anyone needs it then my code for 10% off is:

CoffeeWithMyOxygen · 18/11/2021 10:52

Our 2 year old is getting a Tonie as at his age the figures themselves are a feature, for a 6 year old I’d get the Yoto though.
