My dd (8) had recently become very interested in a friend's electronic piano.
She's asking for a keyboard for her bedroom. Could anyone advise me on a decent one? She suffers from bad anxiety and would like to be able to try and learn the basics from books or YouTube before she has any lessons or does it at school.
Many thanks.

I use an electric keyboard. Mines rather old now (a Yamaha) so no current recommendations but
If she’s likely to use it for a while then get as many keys as possible. (Rather than only a few octaves)
I use a soft pedal which plugs in.
When starting it’s useful to have ability to switch off ‘touch’ sometimes so all notes sound equally no matter the finger pressure. Switch back on as soon as touch is part of learning.
Mine has all sorts of things I never ever use and don’t need (background Rhythm tracks) loads of ‘voice’ options from full orchestra to all strings, wind instruments etc. I stick mostly to piano / organ (kind of fun!). Mine was bought for me - wouldn’t have chosen so many options and think they make them more expensive.
Mine came with music stand which slots in.
I don’t have a dedicated stand - use whatever is to hand - small table or even ironing board when I’m away from home etc.
It’s great to play with headphones plugged in or Bluetooth I guess now. Without bothering anyone.

I bought an electric keyboard for my son a few years ago.
He then started piano lessons and the piano teachers said he needed one with weighted keys to mimic a piano.
We have a casio one and its great

My DDs asked for a keyboard and lessons as a joint present last year. I found a teacher and asked for some advice before buying. She recommended these as all are touch response and full sized keys with a good variety of voices.:

Yamaha PSR E363
Yamaha NP12 Piaggero
Casio S300

I am clueless so just went with her suggestions. I looked on gumtree and facebook market place and found a Yamaha NP12 Piaggero that looked brand new for just under £100 (my budget) . DDs have loved playing and their lessons so I would say it was a good investment. Hope you find something and she enjoys it.

We’ve just bought a keyboard for our 9 year old who has started learning to play the piano. We got a package from gear4music which included a stand, stool and headphones. It was around £265 I think. Our teacher recommended going for a Yamaha, Casio or Roland and looking for touch sensitive keys, at least 61 keys and semi-weighed if possible but not essential.
