Wrapping Paper

gratedbeetroot · 19/09/2021 10:30

Has anyone seen rolls of reasonably priced wrapping paper out yet? Preferably online.

Matalan is my usual place but they only have two styles on their site at the moment, neither suitable (Harry Potter and LOL).

I know it’s early but I want to start wrapping fairly soon as we’ll probably only see family once before Christmas.

I've been loocking for a a week or so too, John Lewis had a lovely range in but sold out very quickly and not due more until end of September. Paperchase have a few nice ones too but you have to use the search bar for Christmas to see them as they wont show through the menu links. I'm itching to buy some but there seems to be lack of stock everywhere currently.

gratedbeetroot · 19/09/2021 11:17

Thank you.

This is the one area where amazon lets me down! As it’s overpriced, bad quality and you can’t choose designs (with a random selection made for you).

Come on shops!

Costco paper is the business and in store already but not on line - the ribbon and tags are though. You could use brown paper and jazz it up with those.

EmsArms · 19/09/2021 11:26

I bought my kids "santa" paper from Studio online. It was really reasonably priced.

Sawyersfishbiscuits · 19/09/2021 11:29

Sorry not online but I saw some lovely wrapping paper in Homesense, they're starting to have some Christmas bits in.

maxineputyourredshoeson · 19/09/2021 11:42

Have you tried The Range? I haven’t looked but I know they had their Christmas shop online open.

severusvape · 19/09/2021 12:17

I’m going environmentally friendly this year so bought recyclable paper from RSPB.

gratedbeetroot · 19/09/2021 12:21

The brown paper is a good idea if I don’t get anything else in time.

Can anyone order from costco online? I’m not a member.

Is studio one of those shops where you have to have a credit account?

Homesense is an option because there is one nearby and I haven’t been for a browse in there for a long time - although I’d have to face a moment of embarrassment, buying wrapping paper in September Grin

I did look at The Range. It looked like some of their stock was coming from third parties and then on a Christmas thread a couple of days ago someone gave a negative review on the online service so I’m a bit wary of ordering from them.

Thanks for the replies.

I like the sound of the RSPB wrapping paper.

I would go for brown paper tbh as it can be recycled easily

ParkheadParadise · 19/09/2021 12:31

Home Bargains had Christmas paper last week so did B&M

MrsLCSofLichfield · 19/09/2021 13:10

@gratedbeetroot - you need a Costco membership to shop online. The online-only membership costs £15 p.a. and they charge a flat fee of £5.99 for delivery. I don't drive and whilst recovering from That Illness last spring I went on a mission to make my life easier which included joining Costco, and I have found it really useful, wouldn't be without it now.

I don't know if Costco sell their Christmas paper online, though - don't remember seeing it last year. It's great for fizz, chocolates, panettone and Christmas gift boxes, etc.

Yes, I believe you need to take out a credit account with Studio, much like Very/Littlewoods.

Cox & Cox paper is lovely, heavy-duty and you get a massive roll but it's not cheap. Oxfam do lovely and reasonably-priced wrapping paper - it's not online as yet, they usually start in October.

GoodnightGrandma · 19/09/2021 13:12

Brown paper with Xmas ribbon tied round it looks nice.

gratedbeetroot · 19/09/2021 13:28

Thanks for the b&m/ home bargains info.

I agree that brown paper looks nice, plus the environmental aspect is a bonus. I would still want to get cute paper for the children though.

Thanks for the Costco info. I don’t drive either which is why I’d prefer online, as I’ll need a fair bit.

Thanks, I thought so re Studio/ Very. Next online used to be the same but I was happy to discover they changed a few years back.

I will look at Cox & Cox and Oxfam too, thanks.

Studio - you don’t need an account and you can pay up front - it gives you the option at checkout

Most of their stick is reasonable priced.
Kids used to like their pajamas and personalized pens and pencils when they were little.

PennyWus · 19/09/2021 13:34

There is beautiful tissue paper on eBay, with christmassy designs. It makes lovely wrapping paper and it can be recycled easily. Also you can buy biodegradable sticky tape nowadays.

I got my DD to make wrapping paper one year with some stamps and a big roll of brown paper. Fantastic fun.

PennyWus · 19/09/2021 13:34

By Stamps I mean ink stamps, by the way. Not postage ones obviously.

ParkheadParadise · 19/09/2021 13:40

The best Christmas wrapping paper I have ever bought was from Poundstrechers. I bought it in a hurry because I had ran out. I went back and bought another 4.

gratedbeetroot · 19/09/2021 14:51

Thanks re studio - that’s good to know.

The tissue paper sounds lovely.

Interesting re poundstretcher too - would never have thought to look there.

TK Maxx have some lovely looking ones online.

Floralnomad · 19/09/2021 15:04

Costco do a double sided in large rolls which is excellent quality and they do have it in store now .

gratedbeetroot · 19/09/2021 15:21

Thanks both, off to check TK maxx now!

I really like the RSPB paper. It seems expensive but is 10m long so not too bad really, though postage would bump it up a bit.

I did a mixed birthday/christmas wrapping paper order from Hallmark.co.uk recently.

Shipping is free: hallmark.co.uk/collections/wrapping-paper

bluetoothroboticgrapefruit · 19/09/2021 17:05

Amazon actually often have massive 50m clairefontaine rolls cheaply. I bought one in the summer because it was a design I’d wanted for years and it was about £10 I think. I got one last year for about the same price.

gratedbeetroot · 19/09/2021 17:59

Thank you everyone. I now have so much choice that I’m going to place orders with a couple of places!

It’s great to know about the Hallmark free delivery - will use them for various things in the future now I know about that.

I’ll look out for the clairefontaine on amazon - I’ve had a quick look and it’s around £32-£38 at the moment and although 50m I need a few different designs and can’t spend that much in one go!

TK maxx has a few rolls of Christmas paper that are perfect! A few other Christmas related things that I never knew I needed have also made their way into my basket Grin Shame I can’t find a free delivery code.
