Mom and dad presents?

I want to get my mom and dad something special and lovely but I can’t think of a thing! Mid sixties, my dad literally has everything he could ever want, he just buys it himself and my mom is super grateful for anything, but I just don’t know what to get them!!!

An experience? Or vouchers for a meal or night away in a posh hotel?

Theatre tickets or a meal out with the family?

NorthernDramaLlama · 18/09/2021 23:00

I feel your pain. My folks buy what they need when they need it. And they don't like clutter! I buy my parents a posh Hotel Chocolat advent calendar - one each, lol. I send it to them the last week in November. Its something they would never buy themselves. They appreciate that more than anything else! We share the costs of catering for Christmas day meal but I am chief cook and washer upper. On the day I give them a bottle of their favourite booze and a 'novelty' Gift. Personalised signs from Not on the High Street went down well - Grandpa's Shed and Gran's Secret Stash (family joke as Mum hides the 'nice' biccies because my dad would eat them all and all there would be left is fig rolls...) Last year it was bamboo socks. The year before Lockdown it was membership of their local garden centre and they went every month for a wander and their 'free' coffee. It's predictable but they love it!

Are you American? I keep seeing mom written this way by people in the UK. Sorry this isn't relevant to the post, just curious why.

Thatswhathappens · 18/09/2021 23:20

@TowelStripes nope not American, it’s a West Midlands/Black Country thing!!

Great ideas thanks. I find them so so hard to buy for! I might go down the gift voucher route but I feel like i always do that and my mom is still very wary of going to crowed places! It’s so hard!

Got mine a membership to local independent posh cinema. Got free tickets and drinks for first visit then discounts and priority booking. They've used it quite a bit , good excuse to go out.

You learn something new everyday! Thanks for explaining.

I get my in laws theatre tickets when I can't think what to get them

Last year we got both sets of parents the same gifts.

We got a pinboard in a pretty frame each, bought 12 gift vouchers for cinemas/restaurants etc. Basically paid for a date night a month for a year.

We also made a foot and hand print Christmas tree decoration for them with ds, going to do this again this year, as ds is now old enough to make his own creation.

Are they national trust members? DH and I joined this year and are really making the most of it. It's not all castles and stately homes (although we enjoy the occasional visit to one of those). Parking at a local beach is NT and £7 a day, ditto various other beauty spots.
