So what do you all think of "virtual" christmas cards via email?

I am veering towards this option, at least for friends (rather than family, would would sulk ) and particularly those overseas. It saves money, that we could donate to a charity, and it's more environmentally friendly.

I'm not bothered about having a mantel full of cards and I don't think my friends are either. What do you lot think?

well I know it's eco-friendly and all that but I personally find emails a chore whereas opening a nice old fashioned card is just fab and relaxing. Afterall it's just twice a year really that I get "nice" post and I would feel pretty gutted not to get cards at Christmas. But I can understand the arguments. Also doesn't take much effort on the givers behalf whereas a card does. Sorry!

TBH, I would be peeved if I got one.

Our overseas rellies send email, usually with attached photos. I think thats good. I'm not a fan of 'round robins' printed off inside a card but quite like a bit of news in an email.

I think a mix, depending on the recipient, is absolutely fine.

Really, you'd be peeved?

To my mind, it takes just as much effort to type in their email address, compose a note and send it off as it does to scribble "love from the Lapins" in a card, shove a sticky address label on the front and bung it in the post.

I do send quite a lot of letters - "proper" lettres, ie snail mail - during the year, perhaps that's why I don't put as much emphasis on Christmas Cards.

I hate those Round Robin things as they always seem to be an excuse to brag ("Jocasta passed grade Eight piano - an amazing achievement for a 3 year old as I am sure you will agree!" )

Although we got one last year that contained the detailed story of the sender's recent divorce

I think they are just fine. Someone linked to a lovely site where you pay an annual subscription (a fiver IIRC) and the cards are beautiful. I'll do a search for it...

LadyOfWassail · 04/12/2007 11:44

Yeah, but that's just me...

TenLordsaLapin · 04/12/2007 11:45

Oh thank you

I also get annoyed that the percentage going to charity is so small - I'd rather send £50 to a charity than spend that amount on cards and them only get £2 or whatever (I may be exaggerating )
