DD has asked for a camera. She’s very creative and so would like one, I think, that can add frames and effects to the photos. I’ve seen some that print too but that’s not a necessity. TIA!

I bought our dc their first cameras when they were around 10 we just bought small point & shoot digital cameras. That way the quality of the pics was better than some of the more gimmicky ones. They could do effects etc on the computer afterwards.

One thing to be aware of is the shortage of microchips is affecting cameras. I was looking for my son and it has been almost impossible to find one of the lower end of the range

Good point, thank you.

We struggled to find a cheap point and shoot for my son earlier this year and ended up getting one from ebay. I don't think it was due to any shortages or the like, but more because that section of the market has been replaced by smartphones.
It seemed to jump from kiddizoom fun cameras straight to bigger cameras with changeable lenses.

We're looking at entry-level Sony cybershot cameras for our 10yo. Around the £50 mark.

I don't think they add frames and fancy effects, that's more smartphone territory.

Might be a bit on the pricey side (between £150 and £200), but you could look at the Canon Ixus range - they have a creative mode that does various things. I bought one as something to use when I didn't have my 'big' camera with me, and was very happy with my choice (keen amateur photographer).

Thanks again. Our budget is small, so around 50-60. And now I've had chance to research some of your options I see we need one that doesn't lead to other screenings (for one thing we need the laptop for work). So, can be sent directly to printer. Is this even possible? And a nice touch would be doing effects\adding a frame, but this isn't necessary. And not one that prints directly onto paper. Definitely out of budget so want one that uses the printer we have.

Following as I want exactly the same for my DD 10 birthday coming up soon

Bump! I'm so shameless Grin

Livingmagicallyagain · 20/09/2021 21:14

It's surprisingly hard to find something like this! Kiddizoom just a bit too baby -ish for a 10 year old...

Yes, it goes from kiddizoom to adult cameras at silly prices.

Livingmagicallyagain · 21/09/2021 11:36

I know! Such a gap in the market! There must be something suitable? Lots seen to encourage vlogging but it's not something I want to push for a ten year old! Just photos and creativity and making journals etc.

Is this one any good? It has good reviews. Don’t think it prints directly though

I'm interested too as the Kiddizoom is too young for even my quite young 9 year old, and he just plays on the games if given the chance anyway. While walking around....

Livingmagicallyagain · 26/09/2021 10:44

I’m still stumped on this. May just go for the Fujifilm instant camera. Or a basic digital…any decent ones for around €50-60?

Did you have any luck? I’m look for the exact same thing too, all the “studio sets” have tripods that hold phones and I’m not keen on giving her one for this.

Bibbleybetto · 13/12/2021 14:33

Does your dc have a tablet or iPad? My dad has a point and shoot but I upload her photos to her iPad so she can add frames / stickers and I print them out on my canon selphy printer which does 4x6s.

All of the collage apps add stickers and frames or she goes into procreate and draws over the top of them.

ElizabethBoland · 14/12/2021 09:39

Mine has a kindle tablet

TheAnswerIsCake · 14/12/2021 10:26

What you want is realistically most readily available in a Smartphone.

We’re giving our 10 year old his first phone this Christmas for precisely this reason. He hasn’t actually asked for it, as he is under the impression he won’t have one until secondary school, but he really wants a camera. We decided on the phone as it is much more versatile (he will need one eventually anyway) and actually better value overall. He borrows our phones if he wants to watch a video or use a couple of apps the school use, as he actually prefers the smaller size to holding a tablet, so will get additional use beyond the camera. He won’t be getting a SIM for it yet, so will use it only on WiFi with our supervision. There are plenty of fun photo apps available for all kinds of editing possibilities, and can set up to send straight to printer too. Budget might be your only issue, but a phone is definitely still better value than £60 camera.
