Unusual stocking snacks/treats

I usually do toys in my sons stocking (age 8), but he has so much I was thinking of doing more consumables. I'd like to get some unusual treats, snacks, maybe something he can have for breakfast on the day. Does anyone have any ideas?

My dc enjoyed some sushi shaped sweets one year they were particularly into anime. I got them on ebay.

The world food aisles at the really big Tesco superstores are worth a browse. I think they have American breakfast cereals and unusual pop tart flavours, if you don't care about it being a healthy breakfast Grin

The big Asian supermarkets are also good for unusual snacks, sweets and soft drinks. Amazon sells them too.

When I was little, we used to get one of those 8 packs of little boxes of cereal. At the time we thought it was a treat because we didn’t usually get Frosties etc but looking back on it, I’m pretty sure it was DMs way of getting us to eat something that wasn’t Haribo or chocolate coins for breakfast 😂

Mug Brownie kits - make in the microwave
Hot Chocolate stirrers - little block of chocolate on a stick to stir into hot milk
Terrys Chocolate Orange, of course - tis Christmas law!

B&M had Squashies flavoured candy canes this week, £1 I think.

They also had tonnes of random flavoured lip balm sticks e.g. Pringles flavour, Fanta flavour and many others!

You can also get giant tubes of Pringles or Oreos etc - great for bulking out the present pile or stockings!

DS loves pancakes, so one year I found a small frying pan in the shape of a gingerbread man. For the past 5 years it's been THE highlight of Christmas! Not exactly edible, but for €3 it's been quite the investment.

I second small boxes of cereal, mini Pringles, tubes of Smarties/Jellytots etc. You could fill a small bag with mini marshmallows, pop a red bubble gum (or something) at the bottom, tie it into a cone and close with a brown pipe cleaner - it'll look like Rudolph.

You can get all manner of stuff on gbgifts website in the way of cereal, chocolate, drinks. They were promoting a twix flavour seasoning shaker on social media the other day. It's not cheap, being mostly import, but there's plenty to look at on there!

Poppins17 · 09/09/2021 15:02

You can get American sweeties from B&M

BaronessBomburst · 09/09/2021 15:09

DS got a Pot Noodle last year. He thought it was the best thing ever.
Followed by the revelation in the supermarket a few weeks later: Look mummy, mummy look, look! They have Pot Noodles! Grin

If he happens to be into Pokemon stuff, you can get cans of flavoured water from Asian supermarkets that have various Pokemon characters on.

What about astronaut food? Brilliant if he's in to space.

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 09/09/2021 21:30

Poptarts. And @BaronessBomburst DD7 gets a pot noodle as a special treat in the summer holidays Grin

BikeRunSki · 09/09/2021 21:34

Microwave popcorn
The coco pops from a Variety box
Those straws that make the milk go chocolatey
Reeses peanut buttercups
A whole tube of Pringles to themselves (also, takes up loads of room)
Marmite cashews

BikeRunSki · 09/09/2021 21:39

Around Christmas you can often get personalised Marmite, Nutella, Heinz Ketchup and Mayo

Elouera · 09/09/2021 21:44

I used to love 'jelly bellies'- small, jelly beans which each had distinct flavours. Toasted mashmallow, watermelon, lemon sherbert, buttered popcorn etc. I think they are American.

Popcorn machine with various flavoured oils/salts

A jumbo pancake spatula

Egg coddlers

A device that cuts off the top of a cooked egg. Not idea what its called, but like egg snips.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 09/09/2021 21:51

DD gets a “Nutella and go” pot in her stocking - the mini pots with mini breadsticks and a teeny bit of Nutella.

RomainingCalm · 09/09/2021 21:57

DC also love the Japanese kitkats from Amazon - loads of unusual flavours.

Scotlass · 09/09/2021 22:14

We did personalised Nutella one year that went down well

DS always asked for a brainlicker any time we were in B&M I always said no - santa brought one in his stocking- he was delighted

Last year bought marshmallows and a personalised marshmallow holder. There's a company that sells kit to have smores

RumblyMumbly · 09/09/2021 23:10

@elQuintoConyo sounds good, where did you get the shaped frying pan from?

elQuintoConyo · 09/09/2021 23:42

A shop called Muy Mucho (a kind of fancier pound shop) in Spain.

I'd imagine you can find them in the UK...

elQuintoConyo · 09/09/2021 23:46

frying pan like this but mine isn't cast iron! And it has indentations for buttons etc, too (I think).

DS is 10yo and is already talking about his Christmas pancakes!

Cravingcake · 10/09/2021 05:29

My 2 DC always asked for Diet Coke and I never let them so Santa would bring them a tiny can (the mixer size one from most supermarkets) for them to have at lunch.

itsgettingwierd · 10/09/2021 08:04

In the past I've done...

Egg and spoon sets
Small frying pan for individual fried eggs
Small griddle for frying bacon
Brownie making sets in shape of Xmas tress etc
Pizza making sets

For actual food......

Pizza/ burger jellies
Pringles
Jar of pickles eggs!
Favourite sets/chocolates
Cans of fizzy drink
Packets of biscuits

My ds isn't very adventurous when it comes to food but he has loved the kitchen stuff we can cook his favourite foods in.
