Alternative to LOL?

My DD always wants LOL presents as she likes the excitement of unwrapping all the little bits and the 'flashy' big boxes. However, they never get played with after (especially the fiddly mini LOL stuff). Is there a good alternative that involves the unwrapping lots of bits idea but isn't LOL? She's 6, will be nearly 7 at Christmas. Thank you

Barbie colour reveal, Rainbocorn and Mini hatchimals have all been hits with my 5 and 7 year old DDs.

My dc enjoy lots and also like Hatching colleggtibles. They enjoyed 5 surprise unicorns, 5 surprise shopping bits, blume dolls and capsule chicks less, though they are similar for unwrapping.

I've been considering some funlockets for Christmas - they have little doors to unlock - but never tried them.

Thank you for the ideas, I'd not heard of a lot of them so will take a look!

Wrap stuff yourself? I’ve done it before where I’ve had a box and wrapped lots of smaller toys eg hair clips, stationery etc

Buy one for those lovely gift boxes and fill it with lots of fun things which you wrap individually. Tbh, that’s what Christmas stockings are.

My children are thankfully just past the tacky plastic phase - like your child they hardly ever played with the plastic toys once they were unwrapped. Used to annoy me so much! SO bad for the environment Sad

mytortoisemind · 09/09/2021 20:42

Yeah, I had thought that I should make my own one in a glittery box and then got stuck on it being the same sort of things that go in the stocking!

There are Polly Pocket surprise sets, there's a unicorn party one which is around £35. There's also Barbie and Chelsea Surprise dolls, including a BArbie sleepover one. There are also Rainbow High dolls which don't have the surprise element but are very pretty dolls with a cartoonish look about them.

We got our 4yo one of the Barbie ones this week, it was a bit meh…. We’ve had LOL every birthday and Christmas for the last 4 years for 2 DDs and now got a third wanting them, but they have been played with a lot so I don’t mind still getting them.

Id recommended sitting with her watching some adverts or YouTube videos to see what she likes. That’s what I do with mine so I get the right ones.
