Muppet that I am, I've gone and ordered a 10x7 inch photo for a Christmas present, and now can't find a frame that size.

Here

I wondered about doing a mount, but I'm not good at stuff like this. Thanks for the link Lapin.

I have a new plan. Write off the £1.19 that the print is costing, and order it again in a more sensible size .

I was just browsing their site, but haven't found any in 12x8 yet .

I've ordered some pics for us in 12x8 already too .

TenLordsaLapin · 03/12/2007 22:40

Some here but not glass

CSWS - buy frames FIRST!

CantSleighWontSleigh · 03/12/2007 22:52

Well yes, that's good advice lapin, but I needed to order photos for mil to stop her nagging, and Christmas cards with dd on, so thought I'd do it all in one go. Didn't realise it would be so blinkin hard. The pics are just proportioned that way (12x8), and I don't want them as small as 6x4.

Been playing with the framer people that photobox associate with - but would end up spending lots, so not a go-er for the present one.

Dh bought me a divine (Sia) frame at the weekend in 10x8, as I thought that was what I'd ordered, and now it won't fit my gorgeous pic .

I'm going to upload some of the pics to my profile to cheer me up I think.

[realises profile won't be showing under Christmas name yet]

TenLordsaLapin · 03/12/2007 22:54

It's a really difficult size to find, I have been looking for you. TBH I think you might have to get a larger frame and a mount. Do you have a local framers? They could help you, they will have mounts in stock.

CantSleighWontSleigh · 03/12/2007 22:55

Ooh - this one from that site would suit my black and whites lapin. Do you reckon it's 12x8 for the inside bit, then the mount and frame on top, or is that wishful thinking?

CantSleighWontSleigh · 03/12/2007 22:56

You are of course a star lapin, whatever I end up doing!

TenLordsaLapin · 03/12/2007 22:57

It says image size 8x12 so you might be in luck! Why not email them and ask?

stealthsquiggle · 03/12/2007 23:01

oooh, an excuse to plug one of my favourite internet finds....

these people do frames (with or without mounts) - they are really nice, deliver quickly, and as long as you don't do it when seriously sleep-deprived their website is easy to use as well.

I have no financial interest in them (other than being a good customer) honest !

CantSleighWontSleigh · 03/12/2007 23:01

I will do!

Now look at my profile and tell me the pic is worth it .

TenLordsaLapin · 03/12/2007 23:02

Get that professionally framed, with a mount. It deserves it, what a fabulous picture, she is GORGEOUS!

AllBuggiedOut · 03/12/2007 23:04

Could you use something like this? I think it's clear glass, no backing, so you can position the photo wherever you like. I got a similar Umbra frame a while back for exactly the same problem! John Lewis also (although not online) have frames which are just 2 thick sheets of acrylic, no mount, held together with magnet. I've used these for odd-sized pictures too.

stealthsquiggle · 03/12/2007 23:04

soooooo cute - well worth a nice frame. My B&W pictures of my DC look great in this style with plain white mounts

CantSleighWontSleigh · 03/12/2007 23:05

Thank you. It's one of a handful of similar shots. Will upload more tomorrow, as I really must go to bed now. Still haven't caught up from Sat night, as dd had v disturbed night last night.

Thanks for your site too ss. Will take a proper look at it tomorrow.

CantSleighWontSleigh · 03/12/2007 23:08

We have a JL locally, so will try and go there before making any final decisions .

Thank you to everyone - will let you know what I get in the end!

CantSleighWontSleigh · 04/12/2007 22:26

Little update for all you helpful peeps...

Went to John Lewis - nothing really suitable.
Have now sorted the 12x8 shots by ordering this frame in 11x14 (standard size), and a mount with an aperture that cuts 3 cm off the top of the photo (just doable for the shot), but keeps the mount an even size all the way round . Took a lot of brain power to sort that one out, so will look again at my 10x7 one tomorrow. Current thinking is to re-order in 5x7, which works with a little cropping.

Thanks for that link stealth .

stealthsquiggle · 04/12/2007 22:34

Glad it helped! I have also had custom size frames from them and (once confident) one with 2 apertures and a double-layered mount. They cost a bit more than the standard sizes but still a lot less than taking them to be framed and it is a lot easier too.

When they arrive don't freak about the blueness of the plexiglass - it comes with film on both sides to protect it, and only one is printed (can you tell I made that mistake? )

mellyonion · 05/12/2007 07:24

hi. not sure if i'm too late......."the range" do brilliant frames....a huge range, plus mounts. dead cheap too.
hope this helps. x

CantSleighWontSleigh · 05/12/2007 08:09

lol stealth .

I can't find any trace of the range melly - do you have a link?

CantSleighWontSleigh · 05/12/2007 09:47

Lapin - just had a reply about the frame on the site you found. It holds a 12x8 pic within the window, and then the mount around the outside, then the frame, so it would have been perfect (except I'm preferring a black mount for this particular pic, since I had the choice)!
