cos dh can't drink this year, and is tired of sweet drinks.

We will have a range of fruit juice, and I found an elderberry & grape juice thing that looks like champers in sainbugs, but I would like to have something to surprise him with.

Oh, and anything that looks like alcoholic somethings would be useful, as he doesn't want to explain every time that he's on anti-d's, and my mother believes you can't be having fun without a 'drink' in your hand. We are now good at fizzy water with ice and a slice, looks just like a G&T

this is a good site for buying alcohol free beer - the Becks looks like the 'real' thing! I also like the Bavarian no-alocohol beer from Tesco (and its cheaper).

I wouldn't recommend the non-alcoholic wine - tastes like insipid grape juice, which is no good if you don't want fruity drinks.

Thanks for these, I had no idea that you could get alcohol free Becks or Cobra, must try to get hold of a couple of bottles for dh to try.

I will also get some angostura bitters, and some tomato juice. I think he'll like the Orange juice and bitters option, and probably the virgin bloody mary. Hed has been known to drink Bloody Mary in the past, tho' never at home.

The biggest challenge will be my sister's house, over the weekend. They are fairly heavy drinkers, and will look askance at dh not drinking alcohol. Even if we tell them why (dh's antid's make him have a terrible hangover after just one small glass of wine), my sis will make disparaging remarks about it just being psychosymatic (sp?).

My dp doesn't drink and he likes the alcohol free cobra.

Noddyholder,

The question is tho', has your dp drunk alcohol in the past?

I find that lots of things that non-drinkers like just don't do it for people who like alcoholic drinks, but are choosing to abstain

lime cordial bitters and sparking water or lemonade or you can try it with ginger ale instead

Marks ans Spencers do a lovely non alcoholic mulled wine which tastes a bit like spicy ribena.

There's a drink called Norfolk Punch which you can heat up and tastes like mulled wine. Otherwise real mulled wine is ok if you heat it for too long as most of the alcohol evaporates.

My DH is a recovering alcoholic so can't drink. He LOVES ginger beer, prefers it to most anything else. You can get so many different ones now. It is also a good one as it looks like a proper drink. Excellent for toasts at weddings etc when you have to refuse the champagne. I was going to ask why your DH wasn't drinking - and you have answered. It is just a lot of people in recovery prefer not to drink alcohol free beers because it reminds them too much of the "real" thing. They prefer something completely different. I agree with clumsymum as I am always buying what I think are really interesting non alcoholic drinks but he seems to find them all too sweet.
