Hello

Does anyone have any recommendations for a nice, not too big not too small, stretchy enough Christmas stocking?

Going to be doing Christmas differently this year as first time the kids dad won’t come round first thing, soak introducing a stocking. I have 2 DS 9 and 7.

Many thanks Smile

Yes! I want some as well, I want them personalised, and sort of naice traditional velvet opulent, that sort of look. Budget not fussed as we'll keep them for years and years. DS is on year 14 with his, but this is the year for us all to have matching ones, with DTwins now Smile

Everything seems to be felt which I dislike, has no give in it at all, or that awful "jute" Hessian stuff.

Our DDs have stockings from Dibor which are nice and traditional and lasting very well. I'm sure Not on the High Street or Etsy will have something suitable.

Matalan have had these stockings for the last couple of years. I think they were maybe £12 or so each. They’re a nice thick velvet and lovely soft fur. When they were stocked at the start of the season, all letters were available.

Have a look on Etsy. I got some lovely personalised ones last year that werent crazy expensive

PinkJam · 02/09/2021 19:11

Ooh those Matalan ones are lovely!

If you can knit, or know anyone else who can, these are quick and easy, only basic knitting skills needed. I’ve adapted them from a much smaller, ornamental stocking pattern, simply by using 2 strands of yarn instead of one, on much fatter needles, and making the main section a bit longer.

They’re very nice and stretchy.

The pattern is in a Jean Greenhowe Christmas booklet. Snowman is knitted separately and stitched on.

Would just say do not get them too big! Or start out with just a few items in there, otherwise they do become a bit of a chore to "stuff" after a few years...

Beakerandbungle · 02/09/2021 19:49

@BeyondMyWits that’s my worry! And I’m not good at estimating sizes from measurements!

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER - they look so lovely but sadly I definitely can’t knit

Thanks for recommendations everyone - will have a look ( and keep my eyes peeled for the Matalan ones).

Homesense always have lovely stockings, all shapes, sizes and designs and would definitely be very unique.

The Marks and Sparks ones are actually quite nice!

Well, it's 15 years since I bought a non-matching pair of Christmas stockings. They were from Primark/Penneys and the quality was exceptional, they come out every year and look lovely hanging from the mantlepiece, they are velvet/velveteen with appliqué and embroidery, very soft, one has a snowman scene and the other has a Santa scene. They also have a little clear pocket on the front, we pop a photo of a child in there so Santa has no doubt who the presents are for. Our teen DC like to swap stockings each year and swap the photos between the stockings too.

Not on the high street have some lovely stockings and Christmas sacks.

I bought two gorgeous slightly padded blue tapestry stockings for my DC , maybe three years ago .
They are 19 and 21 so their presents are usually small and £ and fit nicely in a stocking Xmas Grin with any bigger gifts wrapped seperately .

But they have lights in the pattern which they switch off as it stops them sleeping .........................
Just as they stopped us sleeping at 5am when they were little and tearing into their stocking gifts .
