Hi all, how much did your 3 year old understand at Christmas? What gifts did they enjoy? Thanks.

It was Dd’s first Christmas where she knew that she would be getting presents and remembered who Father Christmas was. She also got really hyped up for it by her nursery and could tell me how many more sleeps it was!
Most of the presents we got her were second hand off marketplace/eBay/Gumtree. She got a scooter, dolls house, baby doll and pram, Duplo and dressing up clothes. Also loved the PlayDoh that her uncle gave her.

EcoCustard · 27/08/2021 20:48

Dd was 3 last year and understood most of it, had no clue what she would like though. We got her a scooter, Hubelino, and some other stuff, dolls, playing etc. Only the scooter & hubelino are played with now. I think she is more excited by pigs in blankets than presents and that seems to be her opinion now.

Thanks

I loved my DS’s Christmas when he was 3 (3 and a half) it was the first time he understood what was going on.

Katjolo · 28/08/2021 19:04

Awww. I feel excited already lol. Normally not like this about christmas lol.

It was the first time he really ‘got it’. He was most into costumes! We got him a Buzz Lightyear one, he wore it all winter!

My daughter was also 3 last Christmas. She was old enough to look forward to it, to understand the concept of giving and receiving gifts and the concept of FC. She had an absolute blast and it was really lovely.

She had a lot of gifts and was a bit overwhelmed and got a bit bored of opening them Blush so I would say less is more.

I have a big family and because of covid we had all gifts sent to us and opened on one day, whereas usually would be spread out over a week or more. This year I will be asking for money in savings or combined presents.

HungryHippo11 · 28/08/2021 21:05

Gifts wise:
Yoto player (definitely the stand out gift)
Playmobil
Dressing up stuff
Craft kits

Three is an amazing age for Christmas! One of mine at three wanted a vegetable so that was quite easy. The other wanted a reindeer which was a bit more tricky because as we all know Santa doesn't bring animals.

badg3r · 28/08/2021 21:08

I think the magic number of presents is nine, after that they get bored and stop enjoying them. Things like scented pens and nail polish or temporary tattoos are great stocking fillers.

DS's birthday is in February and I believe he 'noticed' Christmas Day when he was 1 (going on two). Last year, (two almost 3) he was fully into it and excitedly left a carrot and whiskey for Santa, engaged in Elf on the Shelf and loved opening his presents. He has told me what he'd like from Father Christmas already (a Skateboard) and I'm sure will buy into all of the magic/festivities as Christmas approaches. We are a Christmas mad family.

@EcoCustard

I've never heard of hubelino before but just looked it up and it looks fab. We have masses of duplo but what size set of hubelino would you recommend to make a decent selection of ball runs please?

Winterfellismyhome · 29/08/2021 19:31

Bumping this. Would love some ideas for DS :)

My DD was just under 3 last Christmas and it was just amazing, really magical. She'd been wanting the Leapfrog Ice Cream Cart so santa brought that and for weeks she was telling people she wanted a pink present from Santa and it was a surprise inside so I thought I was sorted. A week before Christmas she said she wanted a pink present with a teddy bear inside 🤦🏻‍♀️ I debated it in my head for a bit then bought a smallish Teddy and wrapped it in pink paper too. I videoed her opening it and it was the most amazing reaction I could hope for 🥰 she was so happy and truly believed santa brought it.

Thank you @Ricekrispie22

My DD was 3 last year and loved it. We really get into the elves here (not the creepy elf on a shelf, more the soft toy ones), so there was a big build up, plus advent calendars get them excited. We do toy ones as well as chocolate, she wasn’t as patient with the toy one and opened it all on the second day when we weren’t looking 😂.

As for toys she would have had a few that most people wouldn’t get their 3yos but she has 2 older sisters so is use to playing with older toys. There were a few Princess dolls that I got from the home bargains clearance bin for 50p/£1 and a few other bits. A shimmer and shine genie bottle and little dolls, Aqua doodle, pens, new Elsa dress & I bought lots of hair accessories, mainly frozen headbands and things. She got her own tablet last year, an Amazon fire one I got in the prime day sake for £30, it stops her trying to her her sisters.

I do slightly struggle with her having 2 older girls as we have everything so I tend to buy thing in clearances and just make it all look bigger than it is.

This year I have got all 3 of them hooded fleece blanket sweaters like oodies, the one I have got my now 4yo is also a cuddly toy. I will try and attach a link. I’m still waiting for it to arrive but it looks really good. I know she would have loved it last year if I’d got one then.

I always but a colouring table cloth out Christmas Day, it’s great for everyone to colour throughout the day. My DD loved it last year. Just be careful if you do it as they tend to fall apart if the get slightly wet. The crackers with the racing Santa’s and raindeer are always a hit with my DDs, we must have at least 29 now that we have saved, they come out every year and we just keep adding to them. As they have got older they have got skilled at racing them over Christmas.

EcoCustard · 31/08/2021 20:47

@17caterpillars1mouse we got her the 128 piece run element set. We have a lot of duplo and it gives us plenty to build some great runs. I love playing with it, Ds6, Dd's 5 & 3 love it and my youngest is not long 2 and is getting into it now. Here is the link, I did it get it from Amazon in the end as it was a little cheaper and I had left it a little late.
