Stocking fillers for teenage boys....

lilolilbethlehem · 01/12/2007 23:34

... ok, have been here before, but still not really got what I need. With no offence to anyone, would rather hear from people who have actually bought things that have gone down well with teenage boys (rather than people who - very kindly- look up websites but have never been through the nightmare of a teenage DS opening their stocking on Christmas morning!)

pack of cards, top trumps, sports wallet, one of those sports bags which they put trainers in with the strings on each side, boot bag. This year I'm going to go with the suggestion of batteries and an expensive magazine or 2 to bulk them up.

Agree that the Hawkin stuff is wrong for this age- you can go back to it in moderation when they're older IME, but this age is really hard. I go for fewer more expensive things that fill it up faster, so a book, CD, that kind of thing. I've also got a USB memory stick on a lanyard, one of those toolkits that all slots into a credit card shaped thing, a new calculator (woohoo), Dr Who Top Trumps, and a Mario t-shirt. I know that sounds expensive but they were all pretty cheap- 7dayshop is good for this kind of thing.

Magazines always go down well here - PSP/PS2/Xbox ones - torch (ds1 has a torch fetish , body spray, shower stuff, hair gel if they're into it, socks, mobile top-ups, chocolate.

Generally though 'stocking fillers' for boys come out more expensive than girls I find and it's more difficult to think of something different.

stillaslowreader · 02/12/2007 12:05

electric guitar strings, guitar picks and music mags here. Also the sweets they liked best when they were little, pencils with their name on, beef jerky from the cat. They are not always as grown up as they like to think- had two fourteen year olds here on Friday discussing rel. merits of In the Night Garden vs. Teletubbies.

lilolilbethlehem · 02/12/2007 15:38

Thanks all. DuchessofNorks - where did you get the fake snow? Sounds right up my DS's street.

Lil - - surprised that your 14 year old actually manages to wake up to open stocking on Christmas morning - ours get up around 12. Stockings are for all ages in our house - DH gets one too. Chocolate, pens, small humorous books, torches, whoopy cushions, toiletries - almost any of the things mentioned in other posts go down reasonably well. Our DSs and DH most enjoy Christmas for the late night board/card games so a new card game would go down well in their stockings.

lilolilbethlehem · 02/12/2007 15:51

expect he won't be up this year lilymaid! He's already had most of the things you mention. whooppee cushion probably THE most successful stocking filler ever, a few years ago. A must have for anyone who's not done that yet! DH and I get one too - my Mum always makes us one; the best part of Christmas for us!

(DH & I get stocking, that is, not whooppee cushions!)

A simpson's mug or one of those with favourite football team logo.
A funny money box,
That 20Q game,
Sport/playstation magazine,
Mobile phone top-up
Voucher for cinema or bowling

And you are never too old for christmas stockings

lovey · 02/12/2007 16:08

How about a present from Santa, instead of a stocking? That way, you can get him something he really wants, not bits and bobs, and just say to your dd that santa got him a present instead?

noddyholder · 02/12/2007 16:08

my ds 13 loves the stocking.

mumblechum · 02/12/2007 16:25

Just asked ds & mate (both 13).

Both said no smellies, but funny book, chocolates, sweets, magazine, dvd, cd.

Suggested fart machine but ds's mate said no, 14's too old for that.

Both liked idea of teenage girl

dragonstitcher · 02/12/2007 17:03

DH insists that I still do stockings for his boys aged 18 and 20. sigh So far I have got a tub each of their favourite snacks, a Dandy annual (18yo collects) and a singing bottle opener each. It gets harder every year and DH is no help.

DumbledoresGirl · 02/12/2007 17:11

I saw some stuff in Hawkins Bazaar the other day that I thought at the time would be suitable for my boys in a year or so's time. One thing was soap or a towel or something similar with "face" and "arse" written on either ends. Also some slightly adult stuff which I would imagine is designed for teenagers as any self respecting adult would think it beneath them: I forget what it was specifically but it carried a note of innuendo, something to do with drinking or girls or something. (Lot of help I am being here!)

Anyway, you could check their site out.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 02/12/2007 22:02

I bought fake snow from Iwantoneofthose the year before last, they don't have any now but they're worth a browse.

Fake Snow - at Amazon - like the 2nd one down, in the tube. Although the 'bucket' sized version looks good.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/12/2007 22:14

Oh Norks - thanks for that link.

I might get dh one of these The memories

unknownrebelbang · 02/12/2007 22:18

My lot are always losing torches Saggars, (or the batteries have run out) even though I feel like I've bought dozens over the years.

Some great ideas on this thread, but mine will have to make do this year - everything's got to be small and light (and blardy cheap) for the flight.

evenhope · 02/12/2007 22:32

Mine had a hat and gloves last year. They like hair putty stuff. Also chocolate. Pens, pencils. Funny books. T shirts. Mine also like those nets of chocolate money (they are 16, 18 and 20). Toblerone also goes down well. A mug. Selection box (there's a chocolate theme here )

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/12/2007 22:32

oooo where are you off to rebel?

unknownrebelbang · 02/12/2007 22:33

Florida (on the 23rd).

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 02/12/2007 22:36

Have a fab time!

unknownrebelbang · 02/12/2007 22:37

We'll do our best!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 02/12/2007 22:37

Re: Torches: I've bought the entire household on of these for their stockings. They come in silver or blue as well as pink.
