Okay - answers needed to the following please!

a) What can I buy for dd2 aged 10. She is quite "old fashioned in her tastes, needs nothing and doesn't seem to want much either. So far I have got her 2 books, some stickers and some bath bombs - that's it!

b) Why did dd1 act like I'd gone mad when I said I was wondering about buying my nephew a baby boy doll? Is this stupid, as she seems to believe it is, or is it a nice idea for a little boy (who is nearly one).

Thankyou oh wise ones.

Lizzer - adopting an animal is an excellent idea. We've done it before but she was tiny then and would probably appreciate it even more now.

Shoppingbags - the black wellies would probably impress her - thanks for the link.

Dusty - thanks, also for the link to the Dream Weaver - do you have one? Is it really good? I'm a bit dubious about plastic stuff that looks good on the box but is never as good in reality - it would be great to have real-life success stories!

Any more ideas anyone?

a) no idea. A nice top?

b) It's a fab idea - I got DS a baby doll and a little pushchair for christmas last year (he was 15 months) and it is more or less ALL he has played with since. We don't need other toys. He hugs & kisses the baby, dresses it & puts her to bed at naptime. He loves her.

Thanks for that Over-rated. I will tell dd1 that the MN panel people have officially sided against her!!! Your son sounds gorgeous.

There was a boy doll advertised on one of the kids tv chanels the other day www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3520604/Trail/C${cip}%3D49651.Toys+and+baby%3EC${cip}%3D49677. Dolls,+playsets+and+pushchairs%3EC${cip}%3D49684.Other+dolls+and+playsets.htm here it is!!

Sorry Frizbe, I don't much like that one - it scares me a bit if I'm honest. [hmmm] I really just want a cheapo baby one. The Mothercare one that Wheely posted should do, if I can get hold of it. Sorry and thanks ever so much for your help.

I haven't got the Dream Weaver. Was considering it for DD, that's why it came to mind. If anyone else has one, I would also love to hear your views.

alibobins · 02/12/2007 22:01

DD got one for her 7th birthday and although she is very creative she found it quite fiddly. She did manage to make a purse which has lasted for ages.

deaconblue · 03/12/2007 11:18

We got ds' baby from ToysRus - it's a girl but they did boys too. It was only about £7 iirc

janeite · 03/12/2007 17:07

Alibobins - mmm, that's what I was worried about. I might just teach her how to set up a simple loom instead.

Shoppingbags - thanks for that, although if I have to resort to Toys R Us, I'll wait until after Christmas - don't think I could stand it at this time of the year (in fact, it depresses me at the best of times!).

What are any other real life 10 year old girls getting for Christmas?
