I want to make up stockings for my mum and dad because they so so much and deserve the world but are also so hard to buy for.

I don't really want things that will just get shoved in a drawer. I'd like them to be more practical. I'll give you an idea of them and maybe some of you guys will have some ideas.

Dad- early 60s. Likes motor sports and is handy with cars and in the garage. Likes reading but now does it all on kindle so book is no go, does slimming world and has lost alot of weight doing that. He likes photographs. He also likes history and playing the ukulele.

Mum- mid 50s. Doesn't wear makeup and doesn't need or want Toilitries. She also doesn't really have many interests. She goes to aquafit and is usually trying to lose weight too. She isn't the most mobile as has fibromyalgia and alot of pain. A lot of bed days. Bit of a technophobe.

I'm really stuck so all suggestions welcome.

Beanies do jars of flavoured coffee that's only a couple of calories per mug - maybe choose one of their favourite desserts that they miss?
Turtle doves have lovely bedsocks from recycled cashmere

Thanks @foolshapedheart. I think my mum actually has a few beanies coffees. I'll have to do some subtle probing to se eif she drinks them cause if she does that's a great idea!

I think I'm going ti get them each a box of their favorite sweets. That's about the only thing in sure of lol

Mum
New swimming costume/goggles/hat/towel/swim bag
Some puzzle books or something to do in bed.

Dad
Car bits; car polish or some swafega.
An Amazon voucher card for his kindle to buy books with.

Joint/something they can share with each other:

some of those JD Seasonings that the people on SW love.

Tickets to a historical place.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 26/08/2021 13:34

Magazines they might enjoy?
Either of them interested in plants? Maybe a grow-your-own herbs or similar
Small high-quality tools for your dad's garage?
Nice biro?
Classy low-calorie snacks?
Anything in the gloves/hate/scarves line?
Puzzle book for your mum?

BareVanilla · 26/08/2021 13:37

Personalised water bottle for both of them. Maybe some light water weights for your mum or shower cap.

2000lightyearsaway123 · 26/08/2021 13:38

Puzzle books for mum! Shoukd have thought of that.

Mum likes plant but has the potential to be quite fussy about things like that.

Maybe a new hat to keep dad warm in the garage would be good too.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far! Loads of things I didn't think of.

Oh See if your Dad could make use of a head torch. Might be handy for when he's digging around in the bonnet.

catanddogmake6 · 26/08/2021 13:51

How about pillow spray for when your mum feels poorly and is in bed? I like the Neom one. Heat packs are useful for chronic pain and you can get nice fluffy ones (although maybe too big for a stocking but would fill the foot). One of those token key rings for the locker at swimming. Also think soft fabrics (ie cashmere socks) are great when feeling in pain. Anything to help with mobility? Ie stretch bands. As a joke one of the daft swimming hats with flowers on. Swimming costume would fit but could be a nightmare to source unless she has a “usual” and it’s not too expensive. Does your Dad use a pick to play the ukele? You can get personalised ones or a machine that makes them out of old credit cards - not on the high street would be a good place to start.

For your dad, one of those magnetic dish things to securely keep nuts and bolts

bendy drill/screwdriver extensions

Telescopic magnetic picker upper with a light on the end

Got these for my brother in previous years, he likes taking motorbikes apart (and scattering them to the 4 winds) and they were really well received.

More great ideas. So far I'm thinking:
Mum- favorite sweets,, pillow spray, puzzle books, hat/scarf (forgot to mention when pain isn't so bad she does like going a walk albeit it has to be somewhere flat) and maybe some beanies coffee.

Dad-favorite sweets, ill see about a head torch, he may already have one and little personalised uku picks is a great idea.

All great ideas coming from everyone though!

For your Dad-Autoglym products Goodwood Racing items? My DP is into motorsport and likes things from Goodwood.

Toomanyradishes · 26/08/2021 15:51

There was a thread on here about favorite gifts and a hat with an inbuilt torch was a winner, maybe your dad might like that for if he needs some focused light on what he is working on

FoolShapeHeart · 26/08/2021 16:25

Spicery gift set? They do nicely packaged little ones too.

2000lightyearsaway123 · 26/08/2021 17:16

Ohh @toomanyradishes that does sound like a good idea!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!!

On the slimming world theme- hi-fi bars (can get then in iceland) or a SW cookery book, I have a feeling there is a new one coming out - something to do with curry?

2000lightyearsaway123 · 05/09/2021 10:59

Great suggestions!

@twonka I might just have to get myself some of those. They look great!

@hungryhippo11 yes he loves hifi bars! I'll have a look for the new recipe book! I know they often bring out Christmas ones.

For your mum- space masks- self heating scented eye masks. Got one in an advent calendar last year and loved it

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 05/09/2021 11:14

Would mum do adult colouring? Nice book and colouring pencils?
