£ very easy pattens plus the material & cotton to make 2 of them? AND an IOU to spend time with her teaching her to sew

Also where would I find very easy children's clothes pattens, or maybe a bag or something?

How old is she & how much sewing has she done?

DD has made scarves, and done a bit of tapestry & embroidery

My 9 year old dd would be over the moon with this. However I have said that she can't use the sewing machine until she is 10 (at the moment I am teaching her to thread up, change spools etc) so she wouldn't get anything like it this year! I think it's a great idea though and will probably do something similar for her next Christmas.

DD uses the sewing machine (hemmed the scarves)

But I threaded it up & did the bobbins

I will teach her that

my mum gave me a lovely sewing box for christmas one year, i was always fascinated by sewing boxes.

aw i want a girl. boys don't like sewing

Katymac · 01/12/2007 20:48

I decided I would rather DD used my machine with supervision - rather than having her own which she could use in her room - perhaps unreasonably of me

Same here katy - plus afaik those kids ones are rubbish for things like stitch tension or sewing anything other than thin fabric.

Katymac · 01/12/2007 21:00

Where will I get patterns from?

They do need to be easy - I don't want to buy her a pattern I have to do

How about patchwork and quilting - enormous choice of fabric and small projects to get your DD started?

I did see a child's quilt kit somewhere a few weeks ago which I now can't find again but how about this book for the patterns?

Child's quilting book from Amazon

How about an apron (I know that one says 3-8 years but gives you an idea)

Or a bag

Have a look at the whole of the "It's so Easy" range - patterns are cheap too
