Lego advent calendar age query

Probably a stupid question, but we're not quite at this age yet and I've no friends with older kids! Why is lego city suitable for 5s, compared to 7s or 9s for the other collections? Are the pieces larger/less fiddly? I'm looking specifically at the advent calendars for this year and wondering whether playmobil or something would be better. So confused by kids toys in general Confused

All Lego calendars have fiddly pieces. In our house DS more than capable at 5, DD more for her age 7/8.

Ahh thanks! Possibly Playmobil then or leave it another year!

Lego City is no more or less fiddly than any other sort of lego. A 5 year old could probably manage though.

Playmobil advent calendars are great though, I'm getting one for DD4 this year

I prefer Lego calendars as you get something new to build every day. With play mobile some days you get something really naff headset, walk ie talkie, cutlery. Although play mobile has probably been played with more Lego just gets tossed in the Lego drawer to be mixed and never seen again.

Following, pondering which advent calendar to get for dd5 and ds3. Both Lego fans. Or whether to just stick to Dairy Milk like last year...

We had one each as an early present for 5, 8 and 11 year olds. They were all easy enough to build, 5yo was a bit jealous of the older ones Star Wars and HP micro builds compared to her Lego Friends random tiny things some days though.

We got the Lego City calendar for all 3 DC last year - DC3 was 4.

He was able to manage the builds with just a bit of support and loved his Lego City calendar. Although he’d had plenty of Lego practice before then from playing with DC1 & DC2’s Lego.
