Am struggling for ideas for my neices who are both seven. They both live abroad so we don't get to see them very often so its hard to know what they already have. They are very into anything Barbie but to be honest have so much of it and I have a feeling that they'll get loads more this year. What kind of things are 7 yr old girls into?

Any ideas gratefully recieved!

oooh I hadn't even thought about clothes or jewellry - well done! They are getting very into fashion. Bought one of them a Girls World for her birthday last month and apparently she plays with it all the time.

Thanks!

Have you seen all the hype for High School Musical? I thought it was aimed at older kids, but 2 of my neices (8 and 10) love it. There's loads of related merchandise in the shops. Asda have lots, and theres also the DVD of the movie. ALSO, a second one is released on Monday. Can you ask their parents if they have it/are interested init? I also get make up, hair stuff and clothes for my neices. Try the supermarket ranges for fashion as they are really up to date. Hope this helps!

I'm not sure I dare mention Sylvanian Families yet again, but since you asked for more ideas I will. Loved by all 6-10 year old girls of my acquaintance.

chocolateshoes · 01/12/2007 19:13

Thanks Tamum. I looked at them online as I'd read about them on here but I must admit that I couldn't believe anyone would be into them (runs for cover!)! Also because they both live abroad I don't know if they would have any of it already and I wasn't sure if they'd want just a few pieces iykwim

My dd1 has just turned 6 and has asked Father Christmas for streetgliders.
She had the pixel chix pet for her birthday last week and loves it.

Bink · 01/12/2007 20:48

Where do they live? 7 year old girls seem to vary quite widely (& culture seems relevant - eg have you seen Earlybird's comparisons of US and London life? I think she won't mind me quoting her.)

My 7yo (sheltered London poppet) is into: books; anything but anything that involves making things - kits/felt pens/sewing stuff/you name it; stationery; hair accessories. Not Barbies; and she is just past Sylvanians, I think. (I still love them.) She prefers to Be Making Things.

Stationery stuff - gorgeous paper, diary, and so on - is easy to post.

Imho Sylvanian families are hugely expensive for what they are. Playmobil or Lego are much better value methinks. When my dds were 7 the best present in the world would have been dressing up things; not so much bought costumes as "stuff" to imagine with - a piece of red velvet, a crown, a sword, hippy type scarves etc. Next favourite would have been craft or drawing things. Bink's idea of a diary, perhaps coupled with a lovely pen is actually a very good idea too.

chocolateshoes · 01/12/2007 21:27

One lives in luxembourg and the other in Zurich. One loves dressing up especially in pribcess stuff. The other is a bit cooler & very trendy. Ideally I'll buy online & get it delivered to them so postage not too much of an issue. A diary is a v good idea. I also wondered about Cats Cradle from GTC
