A bit of background, for the past couple of years I have bought Christmas gifts on behalf of a small family firm to give to their two team members as a thank you for their hard work over the year. The members of the team are male and ages are early thirties and early fifties. As its a family firm I have generally bought a bottle of Whisky for the employees and for their families I have bought posh biscuits, hotel chocolate hamper, last year was a Italian food hamper. I'm needing a bit of inspiration this year, so what would you like your family to receive? Budget is approx £30/40

If it was me I'd do hampers - but give them the choice of whether they'd like food/choc/alcohol hampers.

Sprig1 · 13/08/2021 12:34

A hamper if it has to be a physical thing but I would rather have a voucher/cash bonus.

Chasingsquirrels · 13/08/2021 12:34

Amazon voucher

Voucher

InTheNightWeWillWish · 13/08/2021 12:37

Voucher. DH gets Amazon/John Lewis voucher. Last year I got a voucher which could be used in different shops (can’t remember the name at the moment but not a love2shop). I’ve been given alcohol and chocolates before from work and they’re always crap.

HalzTangz · 13/08/2021 12:43

If they are both meat eaters then I would tell them to order their turkey from local supplier and you pick up the tab.

Otherwise vouchers are best.

Hampers I find most goes in the bin due to the various dietary requirements in our house. None of us drink, we have cupboarda full of wine and spirits unopened from previous Christmases

In my previous role I gave the staff a day off to go Christmas shopping around the 15th of December and a £50 JL gift voucher to treat themselves when they were out.

billiebeeme · 13/08/2021 12:51

Voucher or cash 😀

PeonyTime · 13/08/2021 12:52

A day off or cash.

Thanks for the speedy replies its very much appreciated Smile will take the voucher idea on board. Keep the ideas coming as it might help others in the same situation

Amazon voucher. I dislike food waste and hampers tend to have items in I don’t like and we rarely have alcohol in so wouldn’t choose that as a gift either.

qualitygirl · 13/08/2021 14:00

My workplace does hampers.

Mintjulia · 13/08/2021 14:01

I used to work for someone who gave us each an afternoon off in December, outside of normal holiday, for 'Xmas organising'.

We couldn't choose which day, and generally we used it for xmas shopping, arranging travel, preparing for visitors etc. It was very civilised.

Takingabreakagain · 13/08/2021 14:20

Cash as a first choice but a voucher (perhaps something like the one4all where it can be spent in a variety of places) would be great.
I find food hampers always have some things that I wouldn't choose. Also they're not always worth the amount paid because you are paying for the packaging too.

This would be heaven!

Failing that just the gift voucher. They know themselves best and might prefer to go and spend it on something they need rather than fancy food.

CatNamedEaster · 13/08/2021 14:26

A free day off Smile

Bargebill19 · 13/08/2021 14:26

Voucher or an extra day of paid over xmas/new year.
Anything else impose you know me when really, no one really knows their employees that well.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 13/08/2021 14:30

Some kind of foody voucher. I'm in the US but my manager and I splurge on a generous gift card for one of the food places by the office for our shared assistant.

Hopeislost · 13/08/2021 14:31

John Lewis gift card - can also be spent in Waitrose on turkey/chocs/booze is they so desire!

PatchworkElmer · 13/08/2021 14:36

Amazon or John Lewis voucher.

mam0918 · 13/08/2021 14:38

Vouchers are an useless cop out, if your going that route just give straight up cash. Vouchers are just cash someone can only use in a place they usually dont shop. Even Amazon vouchers are crap, I dispise Amazon and have had nothing but trouble from them (biggest scam company going).

Hampers only work if you know what that person likes, a generic hamper will likely end up never getting used.

I agree with above that extra time off is the most useful gift for an employee.

MissyB1 · 13/08/2021 14:40

I love a John Lewis gift card. Failing that an M&S hamper.

RaininSummer · 13/08/2021 14:40

Amazon voucher so I can buy what I want.

RB68 · 13/08/2021 14:41

Let them all have Christmas Eve off if that is possible. No one does anything and generally stop work at around 12 if they haven't booked the day off.

Everyone has such different tastes hampers are tricky unless you know the people you are buying for
