Sending a little something to someone I barely know in America - what and how?

A 30 year old female with no children.

'Met' her on another internet forum. She sent me a thanksgiving gift (costume jewellery). I'd like to send something to her for Christmas, but know next to nothing about her likes and dislikes. What on earth could I send, and what is the best method of getting it to her reasonably quickly?

Is there a website (other than Amazon) that will send things to people in the US?

I am stumped for ideas.

Why not buy something really lightweight and unbreakable and send it yourself? How about Cath Kidston - there are lots of pressie ideas on their website. They do charge £20.00 for overseas postage though, if you spend under 50 quid. However, they have oven mitts/aprons/purses etc that you could easily post.

How on earth did you get in to this 'sending presents to each other?' You don't know her, probably never will! Nip this in the bud now!

Yes, it is a bit weird, but I feel rude not sending something. I wouldn't have dreamed of sending her anything if she hadn't done so first.

Still not sure what (if anything) to do.

send her a really nice card - a homemade one (made by you or someone else if you're like me and not arty). On the forum keep banging on about how skint you are!! Or send her a selection box as US choccie aint as nice as cadbury's!!

I agree with sparkybabe , don't send anything!

Don't send anything if you don't actually want to. Giving gifts should be done because one of both of you want to not because you have to. She might not even expect anything in return. Americans generally don't give gifts for Thanksgiving - that's one of the lovely things about the holiday. Maybe send a card? Or something British if you think you really want to send something.
