choosyfloosy · 28/11/2007 11:38

My Fair Lady. I think the then controller of BBC1 in the 70s must have been into musicals as well, because I seem to remember it being on every single Christmas. We had the album with Rex Harrison and Jewlie Andrews on it and the whole family knew every word backwards (well, OK, perhaps not my brother, who now lives 200 miles from any other member of the family)

pyjamagirl · 28/11/2007 11:38

I love scrooged forgot about that film

Muppet Christmas Carol! But about the DVD cos they cut one of the best bits out.

DD was scared of the Snowman last year, something to do with the false teeth. Will try again this year.

pyjamagirl · 28/11/2007 11:49

what bits did they cut out of the muppets one dcmb? I like that one but have it on VCR

Scrooge and Bella splitting up, 'When Love Is Gone', pyjamagirl. Now I just have to reserve my sniffly moments for little Robin the Frog as Tiny Tim (never cared for Tiny Tim as portrayed by small boys on film, but little Robin, waah).

pyjamagirl · 28/11/2007 12:24

WHY ON EARTH DID THEY CUT IT OUT ??

I am a complete sucker for Christmas films. Loving the fact that the boys have discovered Home Alone 1 & 2 and found National Lampoons Christmas Vacation on BT Vision last night (no watching said films until December though). Also like Sleepless in Seattle. Need to get into the older ones though - just the thing for winter mat leave

PuppyDogTails · 28/11/2007 12:41

Home Alone.

Or Bad Santa

DontCallMeBaby · 28/11/2007 13:03

Dunno, opinion in Amazon reviews is divided into 'thank god they cut that crap song' and 'OMG HOW COULD THEY??!!!' I am firmly in the latter camp. I think it was actually NOT in the cinema release, put back in for the VHS, and taken out again for the DVD.

LyraSilvertongue · 28/11/2007 13:09

The Lion, The witch and the Wardrobe.
Ok, not technically a christmas film but they always show it as Christmas (or am I thinking of Easter? )

flowerybeanbag · 28/11/2007 13:10

Miracle on 34th Street.

snowleopard · 28/11/2007 13:11

The Snowman, and even more traditionaly, the Sound of Music. I always like to see them both over the festive period, and always have a good blub

LedodgyDickinson · 28/11/2007 13:12

It's a wonderful life and Scrooge with Albert finney as scrooge.

misspiggy · 28/11/2007 13:16

Just love "The Santa Clause". Since the DSs have been tiny we've always sat down to watch this the day we put the tree up to get us in the Christmassy mood. DS1 is 17 now but was asking the other night when we're getting the tree so we can watch the film....aww!

idlingabout · 28/11/2007 19:51

When I was a child 'Singin' In The Rain' was always on at Christmas. That was what I looked forward to the most on the telly , after Morecambe and Wise of course. Now got 'Singin' In The Rain' on dvd so can watch it when I like and am indoctrinating dd as it is simply the best musical ever !
