How cheap are you thinking? What about lottery scratchcards for the adults? (obviously on the basis that if they win a few hundred thousand they share )

DavidTennantsMistress · 25/11/2007 13:20

hmm, how about 3 for 2 offers? for the grown ups how about a tin of buscuits or soemthing? home made all the better?

meemar · 25/11/2007 13:20

Have you set a budget per person, what's your limit?

Buy couples a joint present for the home you can get a cd or a book that they will both like hopefully.

CarGirl · 25/11/2007 13:21

are any of those adults that you can talk to and say that this year you can't afford to buy them a present?

Failing that photos of your dc in a nice/homemade/cheap frame?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 25/11/2007 13:27

I'm buying everyone chocolate this year, with an extra something for the children in the family. Everyone likes chocolate, and frankly they can either like it or lump it!

I make use of the 3 for 2 offers they have in woolies/asda/tesco.

moljam · 25/11/2007 13:28

oh like the lottery ticket idea and homemade frame idea. budget is about £5 per person which will still be major struggle!if you tasted my cooking youd not suggest homemade biscuits!!!

the 21 is excluding boxes of chocolate-i need to get 9 boxes!!!!

I'm sure the National Lottery are doing scratchcards this year especially for people to buy as pressies. They have a little box on the side which says To: From: Merry Christmas etc..

I think they also do little gift pouch things that the scratchcards slip inside.

I noticed these in Asda as I too have a lot of adults to buy for and don't even think I have £5 to spend on each of them

moljam · 25/11/2007 13:46

me either but i thought youd all think i was really tight if i said less

CarGirl · 25/11/2007 13:46

can you really not speak to some of the adults and explain you just cannot afford it??? I would far rather my friends/family told me than spend money they simply cannot afford.

isaidhohoho · 25/11/2007 13:46

I like to buy mini bottles of wine (about £1.50 from Tesco etc.) and then you can add a small box of sweets - eg maltesers - about a £1.

Go to Poundland and buy stuff to make up little gift bags - pens, pencils etc for kids, shampoos, toiletries, etc.

CarGirl · 25/11/2007 13:47

Ikea do triple packs of plain frames for £2 a pack I think - anyway of getting some of those?

moljam · 25/11/2007 13:49

where in deepest darkest cornwall i think nearest ikea is bristol.i like mini wine idea as token pressie then explain

OP posts:
TequilaMockinBird · 25/11/2007 13:50

Poundland also do those frames - 2 for £1 i think.

Thats a very good idea, thanks CarGirl

YOu might find some of the other adults would be pleased not to exchange presents, if you say something like "how about we only swap presents for the children"? It works with about half my relatives.

Also can you consider non-monetary presents, it's DBIL's birthday today, we are very close to him but he's minimalist and doesn't want any possessions, we are giving him virtual vouchers - babysitting his 2 dc for a weekend, another voucher for a night's babysitting, one for DIY round his house from my DP who is very practical, DBIL and Dsis aren't.

CarGirl · 25/11/2007 13:56

also a voucher to come around for dinner? Literally a bottle of wine each - tesco have 20% of buying 6 or more bottles. I also have code for £10 off tesco wine on line, you just buy the ones on special offer at abot £3.50/£4 each.

CarGirl · 25/11/2007 13:57

we've actually agree for the children we only buy for birthdays with SIL & BIL, much easier and the cost is more spread out.

laurat533 · 26/11/2007 09:53

how about planting some bulbs/flowers and getting the kids to paint the plant pots.
