Stocking fillers for an eleven year old boy

Ok, I know this has been done about 20 times before, but I can't find where. Having been shopping three times, I still only have the following stocking fillers for ds1:

a book
a tube of chocolates
a bookmark
a cyclometer
some underwear (which he will hate me for)

I plan to get him some shower gel and a puzzle (possibly a Rubiks cube if I can find one).

I need about 5 more ideas. (Actually, just writing this down makes me feel better as I clearly have more than I thought I did).

Any ideas going?

have you looked on any online shops? not knowing how grown-up your ds1 is, and not having any grown up children myself i can make suggestions but they might be too young? anyway, i have got something called gelli baff for my friends kids - it is about £5 from prezzybox.com and is a sachet of powder that when you put in the bath, the bath turns to jelly then you can just add another sachet to undo the jelliness and enjoy your bath! (i liked the sound of it, even though I am "slightly" grown-up!) - but perhaps it is too young for an 11 yr old...

any chart music he might like in cd form?
have you been to the discovery shop? they often have stocking filler stuff which is good fun but quite reasonable..

thats it i'm afraid, all out of ideas! good luck

Funky keyring - one of those anodised karabiner ones?

DumbledoresGirl · 24/11/2007 21:02

Ah ha, AQ, now you see, you and I think the same way, but dh doesn't. He is such a boring old fart and, as he did not get all this fun stuff at Christmas (eg the joke poo etc), he cannot understand the point of it and gets all huffy when I waste our money on that sort of thing. Probably just as well there is no Hawkins Bazaar near us this year.

So I am looking for sensible stuff to placate dh, but sort of fun stuff to give ds1 a childhood. He has all of the sensible stuff you mentioned already, except tippex... does anyone use that anymore?

Key ring - brilliant idea, as after Christmas he will be taking a key to school every day and letting himself in and out of the house each day. Thanks for that idea.

Not sure what the Discovery Shop is.

gel pens
I have got DS an electronic football game on a keyring (was £5 from Boots but on 3 for 2). They also had a motor racing game.

bozza · 24/11/2007 21:06

Cross posted. Not suggesting that your house key should be trusted on the same keyring as an electronic game.

Tamum · 24/11/2007 21:07

Does he use computers much? If so, you can get very cheap CD carrying cases, or better still a memory stick. Disposable camera?

DumbledoresGirl · 24/11/2007 21:08

Bozza, that sounds good. I went all round Boots today trying to find 3 things I wanted to buy so I could get one free. I wanted to get ds1 the Simpsons shower gel and deodorant pack, and would have got ds2 the Homer soap on a rope at a pinch, but I just could not find a third thing (either of the things you mentioned would have done).

Actually, no the football game would not have been any good now I think of it - ds1 has no interest in football (mind is dulled from the hell of shopping today). But the motor racing game sounds good.

a fun mug or glass (dependent on what he drinks)

magazine

belt (although judging by the way young people wear their jeans these days maybe belts are not "in" )

Rhubarb · 24/11/2007 21:11

tangerine.

DumbledoresGirl · 24/11/2007 21:11

Yes he uses our pc all the time but he would not need a cd carrying case and I think he has a memory stick for his cd player - is that the same thing?

I am putting disposable camera on the reserve list though. Thanks.

I don't think it can be the same thing for a CD player unless I am misunderstanding- I mean the sort that goes into a USB port. They are very cheap nowadays and quite handy, you can get them with a lanyard that might appeal?

Tamum · 24/11/2007 21:19

Something like this. Or would you let him have a little tool set like this? The same site does quite cool LED torches, too.

DumbledoresGirl · 24/11/2007 21:25

Yes, that is the sort of memory stick he has. His cd player has a USB port. I know no more than that. I just remember him getting the cd player for his birthday and straightaway saying "It has a USB port!" and I turned to MIL in blank amazement (I am not technically minded and would not have known a USB port if it had jumped up and bit me on the bottom!)

Dh also vetoed a penknife so I am not sure if the tool kit will get his approval but I will try. Thanks.
