I have such a hard time every year because I see so little of him I never know what he's in to. Last year I bought him a fancy cigar cutter, but it took me all year to come up with that! He is 65. THanks if you can help!

subscription to The Week magazine? best present i ever bought my dad.

a shoe cleaning kit in a nice wooden box? Got that for Dad a couple of years back from Austin Reed and it went down well.

nice bottle of wine + some glasses specially shaped for that wine?

photos in frames - including some old ones?

will be watching this thread with interest. no idea what to get my dad this year.

Socks sock socks! Men never have enough, and undies, but you might feel a bit weird buying your dad pants.

The photo is a good idea.
My mums is hard to buy for, one year I got hold of a really old photo of her and her mum (my Nan) from when she was about 5. I took it to Boots and they blew it up. I then put it in a nice frame...she was really touched.

Have you any of you and him from when you were little you could use?

OH no, no pants! I have no idea if he reads The Week (?) but i'll investigate that one. A shoe shine kit came to mind earlier but isn't it abit "oh, I couldn't think what to get, here is a shoe shine kit"? Unless it was very fancy I guess... he does love his shoes. I'll investigate the wine aswell, thanks.

Photos are abit of a sore point, when mum and dad divorced my dad took all the family photos and I have a feeling they were in the boot of one of his cars that was tolen a while ago.

OH dear, sorry about that, will think of something else then..........

Ukelele? My Dad loved his!

talktothebees · 24/11/2007 10:10

If your dad is a cigar man might he also be a whisky drinky? If so these are great. Bought a couple for DP last year and he STILL enthuses about them every time he uses them.

I really should stop doing other people's shopping and get on with my own.........

LadyOfWaffle · 24/11/2007 10:13

Ukelele! LOL I shoud buy my DH one, he is a George Formby fan (he did play one right?) I love the glasses idea, I can easily sneak the "do you drink whisky" question into normal conversation. But PMSL @ whisky drinky.

sorry - I can't stop using baby-language. I have also noticed that DP and I are refering to each other as mummy and daddy in a way that's frankly worrying.

"Is mummy putting the kettle on?"
"Yes I am. Would Daddy like some toasty-woasty with it?"

I hope we're not doing it in other people's company.

roffle, I don't think I do that yet
