We have both sets of parents, my sister, her hubby and possibly sister?s MIL for Christmas Day. It?s our first Christmas entertaining with a child (DS 19 months old) and I?m starting to get in a tiz. What do I need to do? So far I have two lists ? but they need adding to. They seem rather slim!

To do
Check decorations and replace as necessary

Groceries/food
Main meal
Turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce
Potatoes
Veg - Sprouts, parsnips, carrots
Pigs in blankets (sausages wrapped in bacon)

Evening meal
Gammon
Cheese and biscuits
Erm?

Last Christmas we just stayed in the three of us and muddled through a day much similar to any other! It never seemed such a big deal before now!

Alcohol. And other drinks. Nibbles.

Will you want anything special for breakfast?

CindersNeedsHelp · 21/11/2007 21:32

I am planning to right my to do list next week but as builders have just left our house I fear it may be long.....

JackieNo · 21/11/2007 21:32

Check you've got enough crockery and cutlery for everyone.

CindersNeedsHelp · 21/11/2007 21:33

Stilton, other cheeses, cheese biscuits.

I wouldnt worry too much about the evening meal as everyone is usually too stuffed from lunchtime to eat much. If you're doing a traditional dinner then how about a cold ham, some pickles, french sticks, a cheese board, mince pies and the christmas cake at tea, to be left out for people to eat as they want. No doubt they'll be digging in to the chocolates in the afternoon also, and the nuts!!
Hope this helps. As I read it back now I don't know if it will?

ladymariner · 21/11/2007 21:39

Oh and Jacobs Cheese Footballs but I only have these in for me as everyone else thinks they are disgusting but to me they are Christmas

JackieNo · 21/11/2007 21:46

Ah yes - the things that mean Christmas. Quality Street? Gherkins (to go with the cold turkey sandwiches).

CindersNeedsHelp · 21/11/2007 21:49

Satsumas!!!
