Leapfrog Leapster - Will my nearly 5year old DS get bored of it?

He loves playing computer games, the scarier the better (well what he considers to be scary anyway).

I was about to order one of these for him for Christmas and my husband has just walked in and thinks its too young for him and he'll be bored of it.

Anyone got one? What do you think of it?

We got my five-year-old DD one for her birthday in May and she loves it. She hasn't even had any games yet, but games for her leapster are what she wants for Christmas. That said, she wasn't a big computer game fan in the first place.

I bought one for my dd1 for when she was 3, but it is only now that she has started playing (and understanding) it and she is 5.5

my dd was bored with hers tbh, she loves nintendo ds

dd2 loves the leapster though from age of 3 she calls it her DS

I have just ordered one of these for dd for Christmas (she will be 5 just before Christmas) She is quite computer literate (as are most 5 year olds) and loves any learning type of games, so I think she will love this. I think you can tailor the games to various ages. I have ordered two games aimed at the 4 -7 age group. But I remember seeing a game for 3 year olds, and games for 7 and up. So you can make it as old or as young as you want.

Bought one for my DS2(4)for his birthday, and he quite likes it, but would far sooner get his hands on his brothers gameboy! I have now bought him his own gameboy for Christmas.
The leapster really eats batteries too - I was forever replacing them.

chocolatespiders · 20/11/2007 21:24

very true does use lots of batteries

DD got bored of her VSmile Pocket before the age of 5; she didn't find the games very exciting or interesting. She is having a DS for Christmas as she loves mine. She is 5y7m.

However, her friend, just turned 5, loves her Leapster and plays with it a lot. DD has never had a Leapster so can't comment on her with that. Have heard it is better than the Pocket though.

DS had one for his 4th birthday - was putting off the Nintendo DS. He did play with it but not as much as I thought. He now has a Nintendo.

The Leapster games are not scary - more eductional.

hotpotmama · 21/11/2007 16:41

Thanks for that everyone, useful feedback! Just didn't want to buy him a DS yet. Think Jury is still out on whether he gets one.

money wise you would be better to get ds, rather than leapster plus games, then he gets fed up with it after a while

i think as well as he is used to computer games ds will be better

if had no computer game experience the leapster would be ok. it just didnt live up to what i wanted

you can get some really good DS games and they also can play gameboy games on DS
