here

smeeinachristmastreeinnit · 20/11/2007 11:50

p.s you can get from most garden centres,h.samuel and various others.
not cheap for entire nativity scene but well worth it.

Elfsmummy · 20/11/2007 11:54

It really really pricey but we have this one!
here

I adore it.

My mum brought us the basic set the Christmas we were married and we add one piece to it each year.

I know its pricey but it was important to me to remember what Christmas is all about and it plays a central role in our Christmas decorations. Can't wait to get it out this year to show DD (now 20 months)

Only problem is it might be too late for you to order it this year??

olliepolly · 20/11/2007 13:47

We have the same one as you elfsmum.
It is expensive but we are adding to it year by year and after 4 years its the turn of the stable this year.
They are beautifully made and as you say a reminder about what christmas is all about.

We got an el cheapo set from avon! Cost about £8, is plastic, but very playable, figures are attractive and we need not worry about the bits that go missing (we lost Baby Jesus last year , He was under the sofa)

Elfsmummy and Olliepolly

  • that is beatiful,. love the idea of adding to it each year..

BUT - can you touch them - or are they really for display purposed only...

DD is almost 4 and quite careful, but I don't want to stop her picking the pieces up etc.

Smee - looks lovely - DD actually has a couple of pieces like that (angel and parents and child) already so I will look out for the nativity set.

Sloucy - like the idea of being able to play with - but would like something that will also last and be able to add to and hand down later on..

TMP - no use as usual then! - nice to hear from you, can't believe how often we seem to be missing eachother, your fault for going and getting a Real Life....! hope you are well mate...

Any more links please?

You could definately pick it up etc but not sure it would withstand heavy play!! At the end of the day I guess it is pretty much a decoration

My mum has had her set for 20 odd years and it still looks beautiful but I don't remeber ever playing with it.

Good luck with the quest (I did see a playmobile Nativity set in Hamleys this weekend which was super cute - great Joseph beard!!)

NoviceKnitter · 20/11/2007 19:38

There's a really nice peg doll one that your DD could make herself - check out "here www.buttonbag.co.uk/nativity.htm"

NoviceKnitter · 20/11/2007 19:39

whoops, not sure why that didn't quite work, but anyway, you got the website!

trockodile · 21/11/2007 12:36

We got a play mobil set -looks good and not too expensive (about 18 euros for main and 10 for 3 wise men set.)

Heifer · 21/11/2007 12:43

thanks for the info

Any more suggestions?

i've just had one sent from blooming marvellous - wooden, chunky - i'm really pleased with it. £25 plus p+p but you can get a 10% discount through MN!

Elfsmummy · 14/12/2007 10:15

I don't know if you've found what you're looking for yet and sorry to reserect this old thread but I've just seen this whilst browsing and thought of this post.

cute

It looks as though you should be able to get it in time for Christmas??

tortoiseSHELL · 14/12/2007 10:24

I love nativity sets - I could really get addicted to them. We have 2 - one for the kids which is this one - we put little star lights on it and the kids love it.

The other we found in a garden centre, but I don't think I will be able to find it on the web - will have a look - it is just mod-rock type figures, which we have put straw round - it is beautiful but very fragile!

rutternutter · 15/12/2007 11:11

WE have got the one Tortoiseshell has put in a link for. It it v durable and the kings and shepherds all withstood being used as skittles last year with the frankinsense or myhrr being used as the bowling ball! It is good to have one they can touch and play with. I remember ours being put up high and never being seen until it was time for it to go away again.

dizzymac · 15/12/2007 11:15

We also have the one Tortoiseshell linked to. We've had it for 5 Christmases now and both DDs love it and really play with it. In fact just last weekend Mary and Joseph did a wonderful samba when Strictly was on!!!!!
