Cherryrainbow · 07/06/2021 15:30

Was just wondering what stocking fillers people have so or are planning to get? Do u have "traditions", things you buy every year, or random things etc.

I havent thought much about stocking fillers for mine yet (8ds and 1dd at Xmas time). Might get some elc glitter soft dough for daughter and some snacks.

I always get chocolate and I usually get my dd a bath bomb and a lip balm or similar. I dunno what I am gonna get my ds (3). Last year I got him some little cars but don't want to get him the same again.

Fivemoreminutes1 · 07/06/2021 18:09

Mine usually get a card game. For a few years it was Top Trumps and more recently it’s been Uno and Uno Flip.
Also stationery - perhaps scented rubbers, gel pens, pencil case etc...
Always at least one book. When they were little it was a Mr Men book and/or those little I Spy books. Before that it was a Thats Not My.... book. Last year DS got a joke book and DD got a Horrible Histories.

ChompStompRoar · 08/06/2021 11:48

I love planning their stockings. Always a pair of socks and a matching long sleeve tshirt each, as I bought big stockings online without thinking measurements so have to stuff the toe 😂

A choc Lindt Santa always features and some colouring pens/pencils and a book each. I really cut back on the plastic crap that will end up in the bin within 2 months!

Trains, cars, Top Trumps, water pistols, they love the neon bracelets that glow for a few hours.

I found Primark, Tiger and Smiggle good for good quality stocking fillers.

Bluebell9 · 08/06/2021 11:53

DSD gets a packet of Oreos and DSS gets a tube of pringles each year. I'm not sure what DD will get as an equivalent as shes only 1.

They also get a book, sweets/chocolate, a little game and socks.

BEE08 · 08/06/2021 15:01

I love planning the stockings, I tend to get simular things on the same line so:
Something fun - like slime, putty, hot wheels cars.
Something useful - hair toggles, bubble bath.
Something stationary wise - pens, crayons, gel pens, sticky notes.
Something sweet - always chocolate coins, then favourite sweets or chocolate snowman.
Then add character toys or something that DSD has asked for on her list that fits in the stocking. (DS was too young to ask.)

I love love love doing stockings! I buy bits and pieces from sales and during the year, and also stock up on things a few years ahead!

Every year DD gets:
a satsuma
Some chocolate/sweet items
an apple
Chocolate coins
Something for the bath
Something that lights up
A book
A small soft toy
Some hair things
Some kind of pen/pencil/colouring items
Something unusual she wouldn’t expect

Last year some of her stocking presents were:
A “mouse in a little house” (soft toy mouse in a box!) from Rex London
Book - The Little Girl and the Tiny Doll
Soap in a little tin with kittens on - TK Maxx
A Smiggle dance ribbon
Rockahula hair clips and Alice band
A compass
Silk daisies for making a daisy chain (picked up at a National Trust shop)
Swan bracelet band, Flying Tiger
Rainbow multi-pen, Tesco
Sequin notebook, Flying Tiger
LED peg lights
Glitter cat photo frame, Sass & Belle
Bracelet with her initial on

irresistibleoverwhelm · 08/06/2021 18:45

This year, so far I’ve got:

Book - The Wolves of Willoughby Chase
Winter animals stamp set, Paperchase
Mini notebook
Hot chocolate spoon, Rex London
Hot chocolate on a stick with marshmallows, Gnaw
Neon pencils
Bag glitter initial key ring, Smiggle
Old fashioned wooden ruler, Rex London
Mini wooden house pencil sharpener, Rex London
Sticky notes in the shape of a sheep, Neon Sheep
Hair clips, Meri Meri
Flutter bath bomb, Superdrug
Initial necklace, M&S sale several years ago!

I’ll get some sweets and chocolate coins and obviously the satsuma 😂 nearer the time!

I haven’t yet found something that lights up! Or something she would never expect. All ideas welcome!

BlueDucky · 08/06/2021 18:46

Pipecleaners!

irresistibleoverwhelm · 08/06/2021 18:47

That’s a excellent idea!!! Thank you ☺️

Burnt0utMum · 08/06/2021 18:58

I'm struggling to think of ideas this year for my 2 dd6 and ds5.

So far my list is:
Bed socks as they love them and wear them even in summer
Bath bombs
Bubble bath
Maybe some other bath stuff
Candy canes or a tube of chocolates
Maybe top trumps
Some stationary

Their stocking are a good size so might have to think of a fair bit more. Then there's the Xmas eve boxes to think about too which I bought far too big and struggle to fill so end up bulking them out with tissue paper.

Scrunchies for your DD? A magazine each? Bug catchers? One year I got DD a “make your own kaleidoscope” kit that took up lots of room. Glow stars for their ceilings? A soft toy? If they have chocolate, I found those Kinder Haus house shaped boxes took up lots of room too and had several bits of chocolate in (Superdrug normally have them).
irresistibleoverwhelm · 08/06/2021 19:04

These things:
Kinder Mini Mix Christmas House 79 g (Pack of 15) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01K7DXA6A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_DQ7YB1JX11E1YT19PQZG?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Burnt0utMum · 09/06/2021 06:34

@irresistibleoverwhelm Thank you for the ideas! I think I struggle so much as I try to make it as even as possible so if I get dd scrunchies what do I get ds that's a similar value and size? Never thought about magazines, might give that a go and the Kinder Haus house looks great.

BakewellGin1 · 03/07/2021 12:39

CarolinaWeeper · 11/07/2021 19:23

The DC's stockings aren't massive and I always tend to run on a theme of:

A couple of small toys (die cast cars or small teddy etc.)
Something for the bath... could be a nice flannel, last year was matey bubble bath.
A card game.....snap, top trumps etc.
A magazine rolled up.
A sweet treat.
New toothbrush (Father Christmas brings the stockings in this house and wants to make sure the children brush their teeth. Grin)

RoseZinfandel · 14/07/2021 17:14

I love planning stockings!

I always get special chocolate and sweets.
Dd loves Turkish delight, so I'll try and find some in exotic-looking packaging.

I always put in a book, and a small toy or game, ideally Christmas or winter themed.

Fun soap - last year I got some with little penguin figures set inside a soap bar.

DC like the traditional and predictability of getting the same things every year.
But I always get at least one completely random thing that they won't guess what it is. One year I got Dd novelty toaster tongs, they still get used every morning.

Can I ask where you got the soap from? DD loves penguins and would be really happy with this in her stocking
RoseZinfandel · 14/07/2021 17:57

@southlondoner02 pretty sure the soap was from the Yorkshire Soap company.

baggies · 16/07/2021 18:19

Nana here. Have you got ideas for my granddaughter who will be 15 months at Christmas. It's such a long time ago since my children were that age. I'm sure it was just an orange and chocolate coins!

Toottootdrivers · 16/07/2021 18:28

@baggies my DS was that age last Christmas. In his stocking he had:

  • a toy car
  • chunky crayons
  • Satsuma
  • obligatory chocolate coins (mummy may have helped with these)
  • a tube of milky buttons
  • some kiddilicious gingerbread men
  • a rainmaker
  • a Hey Duggee pocket library
  • a flashing spiky ball (this cost all of £1 and was his absolute favourite gift)
LittleFroggie · 01/08/2021 19:55

I get the same for my young Dds, planned to keep them occupied in the morning on the foot of our bed while we have a coffee:

  • something to eat (Santa cookie from the local bakery last year) and the obligatory satsuma
-something to drink (carton of juice/ chocolate milk)
  • something fun to wear downstairs (Christmas hair clips/ headband/ scrunchies)
  • kids magazine
  • pack of colours
  • stickers

That’s it, everything else is wrapped downstairs.

LoverOfLight · 02/08/2021 18:51

I friggin love planning stockings and did my first properly planned (more like agonised over!) stockings last year when the DC were 5, 3 and 1. Before that I did do stockings but they were more of the, few random sweets and supermarket plastic toys brought out at that time of year.

I now have a bit of a stocking formula that has adaptations suitable for right into adulthood:

Soft toy poking out of top
1 - 2 x Soft clothes/knitwear item (socks, hat, gloves etc)
Magic Hot chocolate powder
Bath bomb set
Book
Nice notebook/activity book (or organiser/diary when older)
Small craft item or set e.g. jar of beads
Nice pen or pencil
Small collectible if kids are collecting anything
Gift voucher or subscription when older
3 – small toys or gifts
Sweet treats:
Chocolate orange
Sugar mice
Candy cane
Xmas lollipop
Xmas Lindt set/animal
Sweets

LittleFroggie · 02/08/2021 19:17

How big are your stockings?! There’s no way that would fit in ours and I thought they were a standard sort of size. Sounds amazing though!!
