Further to another thread of mine - am looking for ideas for non-girly 6 yr old girl. By this I mean she hates dresses, princesses, dollies although will wear pink and doesnt go so far as liking spiderman or really "boy" things.

I have a boy and a girly girl and am never short of ideas and can get them great pressies then feel guilty if I cant find the right thing for this one. Am not going down the Nintendo route - cant afford as would have to get more than one.

Looking for inspiration/ideas at the moment to get me started.

My dd2 is very non-girly too. Things that she loves are

roller blades
playmobil pirate ship
Sylvanian families
lego grand prix set

A few ideas to whet your whistle!

I also have a non-girly 6 year old DD and I have got her the following for xmas:

MP3 player - she's music mad
Scooby Doo stuff
Cheap Avon digital camera
Colouring bits - pens/paper
Chocs
Operation game
Elephant game - the one advertised with a trunk that you wear on your head

TheStepfordChav · 19/11/2007 14:33

Craft stuff - stickers, paints, knitting kit.

Oooh Franny, linked me to a fab thing which I'm getting for my 6 y-o dd. Does she like making things?

It's a set with a hammer and nails and wood glue and bits of wood to make things with. My dd will love it, might yours?

WillyWonka · 19/11/2007 14:44

Off the top of my head...
Telescope/binoculars
Paint your own mug/umbrella/piggy bank set
Kite
MP3 player (great for downloading stories off t'internet, as well as music)
Lego
Something for bedroom

OrmIrian · 19/11/2007 14:49

lego
PLAYMOBIL
scleich do an amazing range of human and animals figures. I've just bought my 8yr old resoultely ungirly DD a load of horses and a stable.

Thanks for all ideas so far. I also have DS who has lego and playmobile which DD already plays with - so cant really get any more into this household.
She's not into ponies and has some cheap binoculars and a kite and a remote controlled boat - she doesnt have good patience with remote control things so I will wait a little for any more (crash and burn at the mo).

Fur real and Sylvania family are what my girly DD is after - too "cute" for this DD.

Is getting a digital camera off grandma ("sharing" present ) - am thinking I dont know how to use one myself so am worried. MP3 player also beyond me and I think can wait till a little older.

She loves craft things so something different which is craft related seems to be what I am headed for. I posted on another thread no replies so far but has anyone heard reports of or used the Paper FX where you thread strips of paper to make things???

Otherwise any ideas for craft things (ahundredtimes the wood/carpentry might be something different although sounds dangerous - have you seen/bought this yet?).

Sandyballs whenever we see that elephant game advertised we all laugh at the thought of some family playing this

My ungirly DD loved her pirate treasure chest when she was about this age. It also means that the girly tat given by other people on xmas and birthdays can go in it as 'treasure' instead of being a total waste.
Along with pirate T shirt from Muddy Puddles - its still one of her favourites!

Someone else already said magnetix, thats good. So is k'nex though possibly better next year or the year after.

Does she have age-appropriate skates/scooter?

Hobbycraft usually have good selection of craft kits. One of DDs fave 6th bday presents was a wooden kit to make a plane, with a motor (runs along ground, not flying!) - don't know where it came from but that sort of thing might be good for your DD.

hayCHingleBells · 19/11/2007 16:36

A popular lunch box/bag. Like sponge bob or high school musical?

MoreSpamThanGlam · 19/11/2007 17:45

MandS do some good craft toys...the design your own mug/t shirt thing.

She also liked quite a lot of things from the Science Museum website...get her to have a nose at that.

ahundredtimes · 20/11/2007 08:54

Ironing - yes! I bought it from here.

Franny told me about it. I don't think it looks unsafe, but I am quite relaxed like that. I figure if she hits her thumb with a hammer one time, she'll take care not to do it again next time.

Can't think where she gets her non-girlyness from. . ..

shouldbeironing · 20/11/2007 10:09

Oooh I have lots of ideas now and looking at some of those websites I am going to buy too many things soon.

Hundredtimes the wooden thing looks good for the price - now I have seen on website it is not unsafe - just wasnt sure but the hammer is rubber and it is obviously geared up to children

Same website also reminded me I need to find a good scrapbook kit for her - other DD got one last birthday and she was really jealous.

Went to scince museum this year and they do have some great stuff so will go and check that out. And Muddy Puddles pirate stuff too. Loads of ideas now.

She has (and loves) scooter. No skates - is one of those children who gets a bit reckless - tries to do things too soon and is only 6 - also gets impatient (I know where she gets this from ) and the "paint your own..." things have sometimes been ruined by being a rush job on her part and then she gets mad at herself IYKWIM.

Not so keen on M&S stuff this year - not as good as previous years I thought. Also have personal dislike of Spongebob and High School Musical along with Bratz - they are probably perfectly fine, just not for me. I guess when she's older she will demand such things - till then I will hold off. But thanks again all for the ideas/suggestions.
