Right, need a boys' equivalent of Pippi Longstocking for boy twin!

After reading some comments about Pippi earlier, I am now going to get it for Christmas for a 7 year old girl, but she is a twin, so I need an equivalent type of book for her brother.

Dh has suggested Dr Seuss, but both Amazon and The Book People are out of stock.

Can anyone suggest another good alternative please?

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/11/2007 22:21

I was all excited, then saw it says reading age 9-12. Have you looked at them? What age would you say they are (might do for others if they are older).

CantSleepWontSleep · 17/11/2007 22:28

There's a good set of Dahl books on Book People, but SpyDog seems to be well like by Amazon customers, and at least it's something different, so might go with you on that one (and the series isn't hundreds of books long, which helps!).

Now see if you can help on my other thread...

no, no- 9-12 is way too old- my mum read them to us (chapter a night ) when I was about 5, read them myself 6 and up (was a mature reader though)
They would be great for his parents to read aloud too- they are amusing and interesting enough for adults not to get bored

Jas · 17/11/2007 22:52

Roald Dahl books were all free with breakfast cereal recently. Everyone has them all.

I agree with cod re Dr Suess for preschool (Mine are way too old already)

All the rl boys I know seem to read Dick King Smith.

Alambil · 18/11/2007 00:24

What about Paddington Bear?

Buda · 18/11/2007 08:11

That Pippi book is only 6.99 from the Book People btw! I've bought it for my niece.

Can't help with suggestions for the boy though - DS is only 6 and just getting into reading really but am watching this thread with interest for suggestions for him. Have already bought me him the set of Famous Five for Xmas.

CodDickinson · 18/11/2007 08:23

yes ds1 loved famous five
we did 14 of them

ds2 not
also the 100 miel an hour dog
all hated dick king priggy smith

Sassafrass · 18/11/2007 16:21

Having grown up with Astrid Lindgren I have to say that both me and my brother adored Pippi Longstocking. Maybe they could get a different Pippi book each, that way they could swap later. I think it's nice for both girls and boys to get to read about strong girl characters. If you'd like a different book by Astrid Lindgren I'd recommend Mio, my son. It's a lovely book.

brimfull · 18/11/2007 16:27

i hate dr seuss books

Pannacotta · 18/11/2007 16:33

Also hate the Dr Seuss books, find them really annoying though not too sure why!
