Every year my Dad is a nightmare to buy for so i could do with some help please

I can only spend up to 40.00 -50 at a push

He works away a lot so loses things like clothes ,books and dvd'

He dosen't really have any interest in sports .

His age is late 40's .

I have just rang my mum and she hasn't a clue (quite normal that really)

The past two presents I got him

an mp3 player he broke it

Peter Kay's book he lost it.

Any ideas ???

voucher for a restaurant he likes? Or theatre/movie ticket?

I think tree planting is nice for grandparents - sort of "I do this for children's future" message.

Woodland trust or national forest do gift packs and invites to dig it in yourself.

Not everyone's cup of tea, admittedly.

Does he cook? My Dad started cooking in his forties. A set of good knives or some kitchen gadget?

My gosh I am just smiling at your Dad being late 40's - my husband fits into that category lol!

If it's any help at all I am buying him (my DH) a selection of organic beers and other goodies from a local garden centre that has a food hall. Going to pack it all up nicely in a basket. This was actually my DD's idea - and she is 6!

My DH just had a birthday and got given a shredder. He loves it. It's been going on and off for about a week. He's started prowling through drawers looking for more stuff to shred. Bank statements etc, cleared within two days.

Not what I'd have asked for but, there you go.

Oooh. There, I can hear it going again.

A shredder - lol. Chuckling at the thought of your DH rummaging for things to shred and actually enjoying it.

My SIL was bought a new toaster for Christmas once, and I thought that was amusing.

Your Dad is not much older than me and younger than my DH!! My DH has his bd in Dec too, and is a nightmare to buy for at the best of times. So far this year I've bought him a fleece and a fancy tape measure. Also the full set of Michael Palin travel books. Not very inspired, so will watch this thread with interest. Best thing I ever bought my DH was a cycle computer. Not at all expensive and he enjoyed that more than anything else. No good if your Dad doesn't cycle, but might provide an idea for someone else. What about something he would find useful for his travel with work? Perhaps a new travel bag/ better toilet bag than he might buy for himself? Men are so bloomin hard to buy for!!!

Thankyou everyone ,I love the organic beers one and the tree.

Best present I ever bought my dad was an electric shaver. He'd had his old model for 20 years and would never have upgraded it himself (still works why bother changing type). But after a lecture about not saving it for best, he loves his new one and raves to everyone about how wonderful it is - he doesn't know I bought it in a less than half price Argos deal so didn't pay anywhere near £100 for it.
