A woman in a shop today said to DS1 (age 4) 'what's Father Christmas bringing you then?'

DS1 said to her 'but it's not Christmas time yet!'

I haven't even mentioned it to him

It is about 6 weeks away, I have done all my shopping and am jumping up and down with excitement.

The major problem I have with Christmas is that it is over and done with so fast. I love to draw it out. Making presents for family, choosing gifts, writing to santa, making raindeer dust, cooking for the freezer etc are all ways to make the whole thing last longer than just one or two days!

I love it - although Christmas ads in October was a bit much even for me

IMO it is a way to get your moneys worth out of the season and make it about more than just waking up, ripping paper off loads of expensive gifts and stuffing yourself stupid for the day before racing round like a loon hyped up on e-numbers whilst mum and dad try to slumber through the afternoon movie!

Why not? How old is he? What's the downside?

I enjoy a long run up to Christmas. My DCs know it only 6 weeks away and are excited about seeing their granparents and cousins. DD started writing her letter to Santa at the weekend.

Today I dusted off my Christmas CDs and put one on.

Here in Germany I find the run up to Christmas nicer than in UK. Advent is a big thing here, the houses are decorated (No tree though till Xmas Eve) and candles burn allover the house.

Ds1's nursery have I think spent the whole term so far preparing for Christmas, making various things for presents, baubles, a card, learning a carol. Think it's quite a sweet way of educating them as to what Christmas is about tbh, but we've not mentioned it in our house yet. I do think Boxing Day will be a bit of a come-down for him, but then so is the day after his birthday.

So it's MIL not Christmas that's getting on your nerves. If so I totally sympathize. Can you broaden it out away from Santa?
