My ds1 is 2. his little bro is 8mo. i wear my baby constantly in slings. ds1 keeps asking to put his teddy bear in his toy sling,.thought a dolly might be a good idea. are they ok for boys? do they do boy dollies? where? the best one?

both my DSs have dolls and buggies. We just bought cheap dolls which hapen to be girls. I don;tthink thatis important. DP insisted on blue buggies though! When ds2 was tiny it was a great distraction for ds1 tobe able to bath his doll while i bathed DS2

Course they're OK for boys! Ds loves his sisters' so much he's getting his own for Christmas. He's 2 too. Try Early Learing Centre - they do boy babies afaik.

charity shops

Good and healthy IMO - especially when they have a younger sibling. (My Dad however goes quite pale at the sight and yet cannot tell me in words why he objects.)

woollies have some newborn, indeterminate sex type dolls....about a fiver...dd and he little male friend loved theirs....doesn't do anything except wear clothes and be cuddly tho'...

there is also a boy "baby born" out....more functions, more expensive and i would guess aimed at 3 plus

friends of ours bought their son a boy doll when he was at this stage. Someone in their family said something along the lines of, "what are you trying to turn him into a poofter?" (like that's a bad thing!). And they just said, "Er no, we are teaching him to be a caring father one day..." which I always thought was a cracking response.

Am going to get a doll for ds as soon as he starts looking interested!

MaryAnnSingleton · 07/11/2007 11:05

ds loved his dollies - he had several babies which he'd cart around with him - perfectly ok to give a boy a doll

paulaplumpbottom · 07/11/2007 11:06

I agree, fathers these days push their babys in prams and change their diapers so why shouldn't their sons get some practice

bealcain · 07/11/2007 15:34

oh and boys lurve buggies

my mother used to teach an all-boys reception class and racing the dolls' buggies was the favourite game when it came to free play, even once they were 5.

LilyLoo · 07/11/2007 16:18

What about these and this

MrsBadger · 07/11/2007 19:00

this one may be a better size for a 2yo - the 46cm ones are a bit unwieldy for a toddler.

nannyL · 07/11/2007 19:03

my 2 year old boy charge LOVES his dolly and her pink buggy

its one of his most played with toys actually!

get him one..... why not?

ELC catalogue has a picture of a little boy pushing a blue buggy with a doll, after all, they are copying real life. There are some vinyl anatomically correct dolls around, very basic non-functioning, but batheable.

Alambil · 08/11/2007 19:47

ELC have a blue-clothed "boy" doll with a spare set of clothes available - they do a basic one at £8, one at £16 or one that cries, laughs, drinks etc for £30 (called Max!)

Car boot sales!

My DS1 (4) is still more interested in dolls than his sister (3). He was bought one when he was around 18mths as I wanted him to be prepared for DD1. She was bought a baby annabel? last Xmas, as soon as it cries she brings it over to me "baby crying, it wants you" lol.

PurplePillow · 08/11/2007 19:56

i think its a great idea!! my oldest brother (when he was about 2) had to have a black baby and he loved it for years!!

Bluestocking · 08/11/2007 19:56

My DS has a pink baby doll, the little one from ELC, and she's his favourite bedtime cuddly. It melts my heart to see a little boy cuddling a dolly! He likes to take her for a walk in her buggy too - we get lots of approving looks from passers by!

Wags · 08/11/2007 19:57

We got DS the blue buggy from ELC and Baby Luke, also from ELC for Christmas last year. He was 20m. He loved it then and still charges round the house with the buggy and various dolls in it a year later. Lovely present and reasonably priced as well.
