Mine are 8 and 6 and love Monopoly Junior, Scrabble Junior.

They also have Scooby Doo Cyber Chase game which is pretty rubbish and Thomas Round the Rails which is also rubbish!

Going to get Cluedo for them this year. They are just at the right age for sitting round the table and playing games without fighting (mostly!).

Just went and looked out my box of it, and asked DS2 "what's that" and pointed tot eh cream bun. he agrees its a hot dog.

DS1 always used to say "yyyeeesss can IIIIII hhhheeelllppp yooooo" when it was his turn.

My favourite shop is the newsagents. i used to ask if they had Hello!

keepyourpuppydaviesindoors · 04/11/2007 15:11

for some reason the greengrocers gets the most custom in our house. dd always picks the newsagents cos red is her favourite colour and then gets stroppy cos she's no customers. she ahs also been known to sit in the empty spaces on her shelves and sulk when she's losing - she eats all her own sweets and reads the magazines and refuses to serve anyone.

we like to make up 'entertaining' stories about exactly why we we need a cream bun a carrot and some loo roll.

Mine like Cadoo. I love the card that send them scurrying around the house for eg. 'something orange and something plastic' and the cheat-proof answers that you need the special specs to read.

Once they can count accurately I think it's worth giving them a try with Backgammon. Ds really likes it (he's 8)
Agree that Pop to the Shops, Walk the Plank, Scrabble, Cluedo and Monopoly are all time-honoured faves for a reason.

Surfermum · 04/11/2007 20:07

The most played with are:
Uno and Uno Extreme
Tweenies cards (the ones you can play 4 games with - snap, pairs, etc)

Followed by:
Cluedo
Battleships
Jenga
Payday
Headbanz
Washing Machine Game (for younger ones)

Game of life is OK, quite long and lots of rules.

A handsome man once taught me how to play backgammon but I was so busy swooning over him I forgot everything he taught me (well nearly everything !)

It was all the rage in third form in my girls' grammar Kbear so my introduction was rather less enchanting than yours

Another good one, esp popular with boys, is Stratego. DS (12) ALWAYS beats me though
