and the thing of giving a new charm each birthday/significant occassion etc.

I thought I would like to get one for DD (9 months) but not sure whether the idea is to buy an adult one or a childs one.

Am guessing adults as the idea is its something they keep for ever and wear when they are older.... but not sure?

Anyone done this? Also anyone know of a good place to get one?

I have one that I was bought when I was christened by my godmother and recieved a charm every birthday/special event. The bracelet is such that initially it is childsized but as more charms are added more links can be added too, so now it is a grown up size bracelet! IYSWIM.

I got my god daughter one from just a local (old fashioned)jeweller - I couldn't find any in the big chains at the time although they are a bit trendier now so they may be doing more of them.

I love my charm bracelet! I also have my Mum's which was given to me when she died. When I am meant to wear 2 charm bracelets I am not entirely sure, but I do like having it as it reminds me of her.

Thanks thegrowly - that would be ideal - a childs one that can be extended to become adult size. I think its a lovely idea (wish I had one) as each charm must have lots of memories attached to it.

I might give the local jewellers a go but have seen a nice on on the Links of London site for not too much and they have got loads of lovely charms.

Hi jumpyjan
I did this for my DD. (17months)
I got her a adult bracelet(so that she can wear it her whole life) and one charm for Christmas last year. I will add another charm, every year - like a tradition. The charm will represent something significant that happened that year.
Sorry, can't help with a place to get them, bought mine in SA.

I started a tradition with DD1 - got her a Links of London charm bracelet for her first birthday - it came with a disc and I had her birddate engraved on it. Each birthday I've added a charm - Links do have a wide range. I've justed started to do this for DD2 who just had first birthday and the plan is to wear the bracelets (altho childsize they're still too big for them but can fit me) until they can. I tell DD1 that it is her bracelet that I am looking after for her and often point to the red enamel coated heart charm and tell her that it means that mummy loves her a lot.
I hope that they will have happy memories of their bracelets when then grow up.

My mum is doing something similar for my dd. She is buying a charm each year for her birthday linking in to something special that has happened or something that dd particularly likes, and she then plans to buy the actual bracelet for her 18th birthday.
I think this is a lovely idea!

I was thinking about the links of london one - its lovely and they have loads of gorgeous charms too.
