Which bike for ds?

jofeb04 · 27/10/2007 15:02

My parents are buying a bike for my ds (3). We know the size of bike needed, and have two to decide from.

What do you think on these?

with handle

from halfords

BTW, the price does not matter to my parents.

Any advice? Thanks

I prefer the one from toys r us but not because of the handle.
the frame work is lower than the other and the getting on/off was quite an issue to start with for my ds(and he is not a small 3.5 year old)
he now rides happily by himself and has no problem getting on/off

is there any chance you could take him to the shops to let him try out(or maybe a friends?)

good luck

ps: my dad was/is a keen cyclist and likes nothing more than to look out the window on christmas morning to see the children on their new bikes(warm fuzzy feeling moment)

Thanks for that Chatee.
I preferred the toys r us one, but then wasn't sure if the handle could impede ds learning iyswim.
Good point about the frame, never thought of that.

I would go for the bike that can 'free wheel' - so that when you spin the wheels the pedals don't go round.

This is for two reasons, when he tries to ride without stabilisers you really need a bike that can do this, otherwise as soon as you stop pedalling you stop dead rather than coast. The other reason is that if you or anyone else wants to use a tow bar (trail-gator) to pull ds's bike along on a big bike so you can go for long bike rides together you have to be able to do this without the pedals going round.

The Halfords one may be able to do this but the ToysRUs one can't
