Missing the Christmas boards!

I'm missing these boards - never in my life have I been thinking about next Christmas so soon!

So much so that I'm going to make a big deal of Easter this year, I need something to plan and look forward to.

Is there such a thing as an Easter board?!

I don’t think there’s an Easter board, but I’m missing the Christmas chat too 👎🏻

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 11/01/2021 20:54

Ahh , Easter needs an Easter Tree ( yes they are A Thing)
I push tall twigs into a tub of putty , paint them white , some pretty twine round the base of the branches. Add some pussy willow branches .
Put the tub in a felt Easter bucket to look pretty .
Hang egg decorations on the branches

Easter Wreath on the door .
We have glass tealight baubles , candle in a huge glass jar (LED candles) fill the spaces with those tiny yellow chicks

Meals are a Tradition too , like Christmas meals
And the DC get a decorated bag of chocolate eggs .

I am also missing the Christmas threads so much! Not helped by the fact everyone (of stuff least a lot of people) have name changed.

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 11/01/2021 22:08

Yep, I've name changed too. Thanks for the Easter tips there!

I'm going to make a big thing of it this year.

Don't know if I'll do lamb, it depends if we can have people over or not. Maybe I'll do lamb shanks for those who like it.

jerichos do you indulge your love of Christmas with reindeer days??? On the 25th of each month, plan to do something Christmassy - watch a movie, write some lists, look at Christmas cookery books etc...

Mrsfussypants1 · 11/01/2021 22:54

Im not sure what easter will look like this year. I really missed our usual easter activities and days out with grandaughter. Decorating eggs, making easter bonnets. Trip to see the lambs, long outdoor walks at local narional trust sites. And of course the family round for a lamb lunch. My mind turned to easter Christmas day. I may have bought her a bunny top in next sale, new wellies and a hatchimal spring bouquet in argos sale already and ive booked easter week of, just incase things change. If not it'll be dh and i, lamb and annual tears whilst watching watchership down..

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 11/01/2021 23:20

Hope it gets to go ahead @Mrsfussypants1 it's so hard to tell. I hope my parents can come to us, I really do.

The reindeer days is a nice idea but I don't think I could do it. I'm so set in my ways with nothing Christmas (except my planning of course) until 1st December- I'd like to keep that if I can.

I think I'll throw myself into marking every event.

What's next? Must be Burns night, Chinese New Year anyone?! Grin

Mrsfussypants1 · 11/01/2021 23:37

You too Jericho. Chinese new year, the year of the ox. Don't forget shrove tuesday (pancake day). I don't do Valentine's day though, apart from the valentines M&S meal deal. And theres mothers day too. I do love the spring. Perhaps there are outdoor walks and meet ups to look forward to, covid depending.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/01/2021 19:08

Rudolph Days on the 25th of each month are good for putting a few notes in the diary (like "Buy Batteries / Book Christmas Day Out -if possible" ) they tend to be earlier than you think .

I won't be planning a Burns Night Dinner but we could have a nice meal on the 25th .

mum2jakie · 12/01/2021 19:53

I think it is because everything is so flat this year and it is really hard to look forward to things when there is no end in sight! Am going to have to continue decluttering before I start preparations and purchases for next Christmas though!

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 13/01/2021 00:35

I will be doing a burns night dinner but it'll have to fit in with my new year diet Grin.

I think the kids will like Chinese New Year and I can definitely do some healthy Chinese dishes along with homemade decs.

Shrove Tuesday will be fun and I'm going to do Valentine's Day too Grin

Mother's Day is ALWAYS a big deal in this house!

I’m missing the chat here too, even though I didn’t really contribute, I always read maybe a couple of times a day.

I’m excited for Easter.. we are having an extension which should be finished the end of March so I’m hoping to be able to decorate for Easter and make a nice Turkey lunch akin to Christmas Day in the hope that we can host my family for Christmas this year in the new extension so it will be good practice for me, and I’ll get to test out the new kitchen!

JerichosPenisInADeadChickHat · 15/01/2021 00:38

Sounds great @Poppins17 lucky you. We should've had a new kitchen last year but didn't happen Sad

Easter eggs are in the shops already! Grin

Limpshade · 15/01/2021 00:51

I'm really struggling to move on from Christmas this January too. Not helped by the fact that DD4 (ASD) keeps asking to watch Mariah's Christmas Special... again Grin

We live in South East Asia where Chinese New Year is a relatively big thing, so I have hung up red and yellow paper lanterns on the hooks I put up for the Christmas bunting. It's not something I normally do, but 2021 is the Year of the Ox, and represents strength and stability. I think we could all use a bit of the that!

SkeletorAttack · 19/01/2021 00:58

Agree @Limpshade - we are also in SE Asia and excited for CNY (or Lunar New Year, I guess, as many other cultures also celebrate).

We have decorated and started to stock up on sweet treats (such as pineapple tarts) and have organised to go out for a celebration dinner.

Don't forget to buy your ang bao and withdraw your crisp new notes from the bank (if you are able) to fill them. The banks here have imposed limits and are encouraging people to go down the e-wallet route! Very modern Grin

Valentines and Easter are key celebrations for us.

I'm also thinking it might be nice to celebrate/mark St George's Day or another 'British' day in some way. We loved seeing the VE Day anniversary celebrations back in the UK, and would quite like to take that forward somehow eg with a British afternoon tea, bunting etc.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 19/01/2021 14:11

I always miss Christmas and I've started planning for Easter in my head. I noticed the Easter chocolate is already in the shops but we have so much left over I don't dare start buying any. I've decorated for valentines at the beginning of February the past couple of years and when that's packed away I put out my easter decorations so I have something to look forward to. I also love planning for Halloween.

Bluebell9 · 26/01/2021 22:54

I'm missing the Christmas chat too and already planning next Christmas! I love the Rudolf day idea. I'm going to start that.

davidsSchitt · 26/01/2021 23:06

Yes, I won't be buying any Easter chocolate yet but I might just be the proud new owner of an Easter tree!

Chinese New Year first though, although I'm not aware of the traditions. We will research them but it'll probably focus on food mostly here!

thelegohooverer · 27/01/2021 13:20

I have a white twig tree from Hobbycraft that gets a turn at Christmas and Easter. I have a bunch of plastic eggs in pastel colours that I put ribbon on. I keep meaning to do something a bit more stylish with them but I do more craft planning than doing these days. It’s just a little centrepiece for a week or so.
Our Easter egg hunt is always fun too. It’s nice to have something to plan. We don’t have a set meal unless we are hosting and then it’s lamb. But there’s no pressure to host or visit either.
