What do you reckon to apricot brandy?

Well if you like apricot brandy then I'd go for it.

I'm a brandy purist myself.

ScaryScienceT · 26/10/2007 20:11

Ordinary brandy for me

deaconblue · 26/10/2007 20:15

ok real brandy it is. Do you put a bit on every day before marzipan or just whenever you remember?

I used to forget and then inject mine with brandy in a syringe!

I've only ever used normal brandy personally. Fruit gets soaked in it then sometimes I put some in through holes.

Slubberdegullion · 26/10/2007 20:19

Every couple of weeks.
I like the evil scientist method with a syringe though (did you throw your head back and laugh with a mad stare mb?)

deaconblue · 26/10/2007 20:23

am too late for soaking first as I want to make the cake this weekend. Have some lovely juicy dates to go in it too. Quite excited about making it

shoppingbags, I'd get them soaking asap. It's never too late to soak.

You need the pre-soak in order to experience the mind blowingly fabulous christmas cake mixing bowl (and stirers) lick out.

Do it alone.

It made me very happy on thursday morning.

deaconblue · 26/10/2007 20:31

ah maybe can soak tonight then. Will have a look for my brandy, otherwise will have to buy tomorrow

I used to go ' Mwah, mwah, mwah!' as I did it!

No syringes now, as I no longer work in that sort of lab!

fortyplus · 26/10/2007 20:37

Delia says Brandy...

mabelmurple · 26/10/2007 20:40

Brandy is yuk - I always use a medium sweet sherry .

Hassled · 26/10/2007 20:42

I've gone for Cuban Spiced Rum, on the basis that I don't know what else to do with it. It smells a treat.

fortyplus · 27/10/2007 12:47

mabelmurple is obviously even older than me - surely no one under 60 likes sherry?

mabelmurple · 27/10/2007 19:13

fortyplus - certainly fit into that category, but I'm definitely not over 60!! But yes, I do like sherry . What's not to like?

Lilymaid · 27/10/2007 19:38

I use virtually anything that is a spirit that lurks in the drinks cupboard and which doesn't taste of cough mixture or gin. I marinate the dried fruits for a couple of weeks and use many times more than Delia recommends (dried fruit soaks it all up).
But don't do what BIL did - Christmas cake with Guinness and poured in whole bottle. Cake had a curious jelly like consistency.
