Did you get it right on amount for DC?

Do you think you got the right amount of presents for your DC?

Or too much? Too little? Wrong balance on quality v quantity?

I cut back this year so was happier with the amount but still wish I had bought less. I always think I haven’t bought much until I get everything out for wrapping a few days before.

I want to focus on just quality next year and cut out a lot of the “filler” type stuff that just isn’t necessary.

Mine are teen/tween and mainly wanted (expensive) clothes and trainers which are 'useful' and prevent us from buying too much, but I'm really pleased with the surprise extras this year which have gone down really well - grandparents went a bit more OTT than usual too just because it's been a crap year, but probably for the first time every gift was a hit so I'm pleased about that.

I was spot on with DD (18). The most expensive thing this year from her Step-dad and me was just £40 and her favourite present was a Sherlock inspired quote T-shirt. She just got a couple of things from her Dad but they were quality items.
It was definitely a tat free zone.

I sonny think we were far out this year. The main presents have all been played with and lived, and we made sure that smaller things would be used (Lego boards, Nerf pellets, books on things they love, bath bombs etc), so nothing that will be wasted.

I think I got it right for the first time, it has only taken me 14 years Xmas Hmm
They had an Xbox to share and then 4 gifts each. It was perfect and they were really happy with it all. It's also lovely to be relaxing today without thinking about where I'm going to put all the new stuff.

I went totally overboard but both dds were super happy with all their gifts. They were very grateful for everything.

My favourite moment was when dd2 opened a cheap box of crackers, laughed and said why did you get me these. The look on her face when we pulled one and It was the rare unicorn boy lol doll she has been talking about for months and I told her I couldn't afford was priceless! (Reality was I bought a £12 bundle of second-hand lol dolls from ebay and he was included!)

I think probably just the right amount here, though I will tailor his stocking a bit better next year. He has only really played with 2 things from it. I want him to be more craft minded than he is (especially as we are now tier 4) but I need to accept he isnt so those gifts may go to waste. Or I'll keep them for his baby brother!

His main gift of pirate lego was a massive hit and he has enjoyed his other gifts from us. We didnt get him much else as he has such a massive family. He still has quite a few to open. We have to stagger otherwise he gets overwhelemed. He is 3 and this is the first year he has 'got it'

nocuttsnobutts that's just gorgeois about the cracker suprise. What a great mum you are to think of it

I spent more but I got the perfect amount imo. She had her main 3 toy story figures then a few toys from us as well as books and useful things like new trainers and a new water bottle. She loved it and didnt get overwhelmed like she did last year. I didnt feel overwhelmed with toys either. Each present she was so excited for, yes I have to admit she wasnt as excited about the puzzle book when she first opened it. But we have already done the puzzles twice! I'm really happy with her reaction as some times I feel she can say things that might seem ungrateful. But she did so well and she loves her new toys :) shes 4 btw

olderthanyouthink · 27/12/2020 22:02

DD is 2 and has only got a little wooden toy, a couple books and a (smart) light bulb from us which came to £70 doesn't feel like we got much but it cost a fair bit. She still hasn't been given the light bulb because it was forgotten in an emergency.

She has had a shit tonne of waaay more expensive stuff this year so no big presents at xmas because of the volume of stuff she'd get

Pipandmum · 27/12/2020 22:07

Mine are 15 and 17 and got about five presents for the older one and 7 for younger. The oldest got airpods so his were fewer but more expensive. Last year we went abroad and I spent thousands on flights and activities and eating out, but they never seem to take that into account! This year income way down so had to scale back.

PhantomErik · 28/12/2020 12:55

I think we got it about right.

The things that made the pile look big were dressing gowns, fake oodies & hoodies each. However that balanced the small expensive stuff really well & everyone seems happy. It made it easier to tidy afterwards as well because hoodies went in drawers & dressing gowns & fake oodies went in the door hooks.

The oodies will last well due to size so next year they'll get new duvet covers (they love the teddy bear fleece ones but have 2 sets each from last 2 Christmas's but I suspect the first ones I bought will be getting tatty by next year). I'll start looking for nice different colours now.

Stockings were great this year. No tat just small good things but not necessarily cheap. Each stocking cost about £40 to fill but they loved them so doing that next year.
