So, what's your favourite day over Christmas and why? I love the magical feeling and excitement of Christmas Eve , knowing there is further fun to come. My family has had a particularly bad year on top of covid so hoping to make the best we can in tier 4.

Christmas Day. Always!

Twobrews · 23/12/2020 22:22

My favourite day is Boxing Day it's so relaxed and cosy.

However my absolute favourite bit of Christmas is early in the morning. When I sneak downstairs, light the fire, get the turkey out the fridge, put the cinnamon rolls in the oven. Make a big pot of tea and turn all the tree lights and fairy lights on.
The scene is set, there are the Christmassy smells of the cooking, I can usually hear the excited chatter of DH and the children upstairs. The anticipation of what's to come is just wonderful.

Boxing day, where I actually enjoy eating the food I've cooked. And eat more crap while browsing the sales... I love food Grin

Sixtonskip · 23/12/2020 22:29

Although I enjoy Christmas Day it's generally a bit hectic. I love Boxing Day as it's when we usually have a big get together at my Aunt's house, that's the bit I'm most disappointed to be missing out on this year.

The evening of Boxing Day when everything's done, DS in bed, all the presents are wrapped, I've watched Carols from Kings and I'm sinking into a Christmas special and a bottle of fizz with DH. Although now I have a proper teenager who's still up at half ten tonight, maybe that will change?

LooneyLovefood · 23/12/2020 22:36

Christmas Eve definitely. I remember the excitement as a kid and all the traditions that we built up over the years. I was always more excited for our usual activities on Christmas Eve (nothing more grand than going for a walk and helping set the Christmas Day table) than I was for the mountain of presents I'd be given the next year. Even now, lots of the traditions I had as a child have morphed into new ones with my own family. This year's Christmas Day and Boxing Day are going to be very very different to normal, but Christmas Eve is going to be exactly the same and I can't wait!

spaceghetto · 23/12/2020 22:41

@Twobrews this sounds wonderful!

ChikiTIKI · 23/12/2020 22:44

Christmas Eve for me too! It's so exciting and a lovely family day without all the presents (which while I am grateful for them, I do find it a bit overwhelming).

digthroughtheditches · 23/12/2020 22:48

Boxing Day. Just us and the kids at home, no pressure to be anywhere or do anything. Food is just a constant flow of bits and pieces. Cheese! TV! Pyjamas all day!

Tearsfortiers · 23/12/2020 22:50

I have two. Boxing Day is my favourite day of the year. No cooking to do, lots of lovely leftovers, relaxed DH and happy children occupied with their new presents.

My other favourite is a huge family get together at my parents between Christmas and New Year. Mum dropped presents off today and she stood in the cold and wet on the doorstep chatting for a few minutes and it really hit home how strange this Christmas is going to be.

Christmas Eve, pretending to be Santa Xmas Smile

Twobrews · 23/12/2020 23:27

@spaceghetto It's so exciting Xmas Smile

CarolEffingBaskin · 23/12/2020 23:52

Christmas Eve, definitely! I love that (for us) it's entirely about family time. No cooking, no stressing, nowhere to be. Just an easy, lazy day where we snuggle, play games, stay in and the children are absolutely bursting with excitement. Christmas Eve feels like the day with the most magic.

I think this is my youngest DCs last year believing, I will miss it very much Xmas Sad

TidyOmlette · 24/12/2020 00:00

Boxing Day! It’s MY day. If I’m not working I sit in my pj’s and eat nothing but crap all day 😊

BewareTheBeardedFatMan · 24/12/2020 00:08

Christmas Eve for me! I like the anticipation, the tree looks lovely with the presents all wrapped underneath, it's exciting and the epitome of Christmas to me.

LindaEllen · 24/12/2020 00:17

27, 28, 28 for me.

All socialising obligations have been finished, no more stressful meals to cook, and we always have nice food, I'll have lots of TV to catch up on, new books, new PJs and bath things etc.

I'm incredibly lucky to be self employed so I take two weeks off over Christmas, but the bit before is obviously manic.

I love Twixmas!

GuiltyPleasure · 24/12/2020 00:26

Christmas Eve for me. There's something about the anticipation that makes it so cosy and lovely. I think it takes me back to my childhood memories even more so than Christmas Day itself.

Hohomerryxmas · 24/12/2020 00:47

Christmas eve and boxing day equally. I love the hustle and bustle of christmas eve and the excitement. Boxing day I just love for relaxing and all the left overs. I feel christmas day is over in a blink of eye, I love christmas day but its all a big blur of cooking, wrapping paper and cleaning up the Chaos 🤣

happymummy12345 · 07/01/2021 14:51

It depends, for my son Christmas Day, especially seeing his face when he gets up and goes downstairs and sees that Father Christmas has been.
For me it has to be New Year's Eve. It's my favourite day and night of the year.
