Cooking 2 lots of meat on Xmas Day

I have a Turkey (12lb ish) and a beef joint (1.8 - 2kg).

They can be cooked at similar temps but won't both fit in the oven at the same time.

Would it make more sense to cook the Turkey first as it will stay warm longer?

Also will need oven space for potatoes, parsnips, cauli cheese, veggie main, two types of stuffing, pigs in blankets etc

Could I cook the beef the day before (it needs to be rare)

Aaaaahhh help!!!

Cook the turkey first

I cook the turkey on Christmas Eve every year. Always been fine. Can warm slices through at the end of cooking everything else or when you pour the gravy over it will warm it anyway.

Do you are slow cooker? If you do pop the beef in there. I used to keep a smallish turkey hot for a couple of hours when I had a single oven. Every year DH would forget how hot it would stay and burn his fingers when he went to carve.

I cook the turkey first then cover with layers of tinfoil and a pile of towels to keep the heat in. It's still warm an hour or so later.

Depending on how rare you can seal it on the hob and serve (blue) or put in a hot oven for as long as you have, but I do suggest cooking the second joint on Boxing Day instead, with the restrictions you can't need that much meat!

ningaj · 22/12/2020 13:46

@movingonup20 you're right I don't need that much meat, but it was ordered a while ago and it's what I've got.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'll do the Turkey first and keep it warm. Brown the beef in a pan and then finish in the oven 👍🏼

Excited for cold rare roast beef and horseradish sarnies in Boxing Day!!!
